I have an older iPad that I no longer have a use for, it does run the most current iOS, but I have an iPad Pro from work. Trying to think of something useful to use it for around the house. Kiddo gets an iPad from school so she doesn't need it either and in the summer I would rather she play outside than sit on a tablet.

I was thinking a digital photo frame might be nice, looks like there are a lot of apps and even some custom picture frame cases on ebay. Has anyone set something like this up before? Charging seems like it would be the downside.

Another thought would be to mount it on the wall with an outlet near by and use it as a control center for the house. I have a smart thermostat and WEMO switches throughout the house along with some security cameras so I could load all those apps on the iPad and use it for that.

Anyone doing something else interesting with older, but still serviceable tech?

I use my 1st generation iPad mini as a remote control for JRiver Media Center using JRemote.

My daughter has a cheap tablet mounted on the wall of her kitchen for finding and displaying recipes.

I do the same with an old iPad Mini.

Someone had an old Fire tablet here that I got free for shipping. I loaded an alarm clock app on it, and use it when I go on travel or vacation as a clock.

On a similar not, we got a Facebook Portal at a garage sale for $5. It's basically a clock in our kitchen now.

Mounted mine to the wall and display the information from my Netatmo weather station on it.
