Hard drive "beeping" . . .

I have a WD Red Plus 2TB connected to a Raspberry Pi that I use as a DVR.

I was hearing a strange intermittent "beep" that we all thought was coming from the Fios ONT. A tech showed up, said my ONT has no battery to replace, and kindly helped us track it down to the drive. Researched it and found that it can make that sound if having rotation issues. (Who knew? I always thought it was just the "click of death".)

It's under warranty, so I'm sending it back to WD. Hopefully they will replace it. Going to try to borrow a drive while it's in process.

If for some reason I need to buy a new drive, is there anything recommended out there right now compared to the WD Red Plus?

Thanks!

Can indicate a head-crash or a bad board causing seek-errors or overheating causing frequent recalibration.

...WD Red ain't great lately. And their descriptions can be deceptive - you need the "plus" edition to avoid getting the sometimes-painfully-slow and can't-reliably-RAID SMR version. I'd strongly consider moving to Seagate IronWolf drives.
