Some (many?) of those “collapsible” hoses are NOT drinking water safe. I might use one to wash the car or water the grass but not much more.

Have you looked at the “Flexilla” line of hoses? The ones I have start flexible and have stayed flexible. A GOOD hose is an investment that will give years of reliable service. A “bargain” hose may not last one season.

I've found that a heavy duty commercial grade hose and a good hose winder help a lot.

I've used a number of them and like them. Much easier than trying to wind hoses. This is the last one I got... [smile.amazon.com].
Can't tell you if you can drink from it... I've got inside plumbing for that.

I'm still using the hose I acquired when I bought my first house - in 1990.

(at the time, memories of the cheap barely flexible green hoses my parents bought that inevitably failed after a fairly short time was very much on my mind - with 32 years of hindsight, I'm pretty sure I made the right choice)

....don't stick it up your nose....the rubber hose....

I have a similar hose. The only "flaw" with them (aside from the potential drinking water issue?... which isn't an issue for me) is that you're not supposed to store them in sun light. UV exposure will degrade the material and make them less retractable? The provide a storage bag they want you to put the hose in when you're done with it.

The previous owners of our house left a bunch of flexible hoses (not the coiled ones) at each of the outdoor faucets. They leak a whole lot less than the "good" hoses we have.

Wow, I'm jealous of folks that have good experiences with their flexible hoses. Mine failed (tear near the hardware) after several uses.

Agreed with the others... I bought a 'lifetime' Craftsman rubber hose many years ago. It's on a winder and it has lived outside for 25 years so far.

That's always been my experience too. If you "teach" your hose how to coil from the time you get it, much the same with a long AC extension cord, it will be set in that wind and it requires little to no effort to coil.

This is what I love about the collapsable ones. They are light, and as they fill it's really easy to drag them around. I've got a 50' which is no problem at all to move.

Over the eons, I've watered the lawns and plants of many neighbors when they were on vacation.

Those with folding expanding hoses almost always failed or were failing, compared to 'regular' hoses, and the heavy-duty hose only one neighbor had.

As a kid, I was never really conscious of why I liked taking care of that greenery during their summer vacation.

Watering that yard never felt like work, and now I know why.

Of course, I never had to roll it up, as that's how it was supposed to live, so that helped.

As I look back, it was always sort of a zen thing, though I didn't realize it at the time, a lazy day of summer

I never used another hose that didn't kink when pulling it across a lawn, and once they kinked, it would always kink unless the water was on full and the hose had a nozzle that could be shut off.

With those neighbors that were posh enough to have a winder, I had to wind the hose with, again the water on and nozzle shut to keep it from kinking jamming the winder.

Ditto. However the new craftsman hoses are not near as good as the old rubber ones with solid brass fittings. My parents hoses are going on 20 years and mine 10 years.

Female and male connections?? Why? The standard for hoses is female connections at both ends and male on the attachments. The only advantage I can see to male-female is to use it only as an extension hose.

I am super passionate about my Flexzilla. It’s expensive, but wonderful… lightweight, durable, and very flexible. I only have a short run in the barn, but if cost was no issue, I’d have 5 100’ ones.

I don't know where you buy your hoses but EVERY "regular" and / or "standard" hose I've EVER seen has a MALE thread on one end and a FEMALE thread on the opposite end. Just like in life, the MALE enters the FEMALE.

Maybe in today's mixed up world, there are now "woke" hoses?

A nozzle connected directly to a hose bib is of very limited use.
