new kitties - name suggestions?
Posted by: mattkime
Date: May 21, 2022 09:55PM

They're brothers from the same litter, 10 months old. We've had cuddles and play time but we're still getting to know each other.

We're having trouble coming up with names. Any suggestions?

I would guess Tux and Bo, but their names will become apparent as you get to know them. I like Acer's thought of "I Am Death Destroyer of Worlds Fear Me", that can be his nickname.hail smiley

For instance, big guy Solstice was born about the time of the winter solstice and hence the name. He responds to "So-weeeee" (babyification of "Solly"). The other one was previously named "Mr. Frisky" but ... well, just say that ... ummm ... trying to call him in mixed company can be rather disconcerting. He responds to it since that was his name for all his life prior to coming home with me, but "Peanut" fits him better. If you want to go formal: Alfred P. Nutters. If you want to go informal, "Nutters" works.

You could go back to the source and name them Tux and Vishnu, or, formally, "Tuxedo" and "Destroyer of Worlds" when they need a stern talking to.

Call them Cuddles and Playtime until their personalities suggest something more in keeping with their character.

With regard to "Midnight": as someone who has worked in rescue, I wish I had a dollar for every black cat named Midnight we have encountered.

just don't do what my Cuban father-in-law did and name the black one Negro. He was quickly informed that was not a good idea.

(for those unfamiliar - Negro (pronounced NA-grow) is Spanish for black.)

As Diana pointed out, you kinda have to get to know them first before giving them permanent names. Until then, I suggest "Slinky" for the black & white one and "Snowball" for the all-black one.

Way way way back before I was born, my parents had a black cat they named Nubian. They always called him Nuby, so I guess nowadays people would think his name was Newbie, but in fact it isn't something my Mom would do today.

They are beautiful!
My sister has two brothers, one black and one tuxedo, and they are the best of friends. You are going to have such fun watching these guys interact.
[She took them to foster until homes were found, so she named them Dash and Ditto since they weren't going to be permanent names. Needless to say, the fostering failed but they are still Dash and Ditto.]

I think in most other Spanish speaking countries, that would be NEH-grow.

Either way, probably not the best choice outside those countries.

Morena might be an option.

Well, if one of the cats were female, or chose to be non-binary.

I once worked with a woman named Morena, a lovely name.

We've decided that names are going to be a work in progress but here's what we have so far -

Toyo (black kitty)
Boba Fett (star wars reference) / Boba (name for the bubbles in bubble tea) / Bo (my short version)

True cat's names are ALWAYS a work in progress smileys with beer

Never had one yet that didn't go through a boatload of names during their time here on earth … one or two will likely stick, or more likely become part of a much longer "real name"…

The one in the Tux is obviously James... The other one is obviously Felix. Maybe they'll get all the girls, and martini's shaken (not stirred)...

Or, the Tuxie is Hook, and the black one is Booze. grinning smiley

How about Vader or Darth for the all black one as in Darth Vader?
