The MacResource Forum is the fount of all wisdom - rhubarb edition

Common knowledge states that rhubarb should be split in fall or early spring. We take possession of our new house next Tuesday. Current house is not on the market yet. Is there anything that can be done to take some of our rhubarb with us or not?

Is it a lost cause to split now, or can I do it and just have a year or two of nothing harvestable? Google is unhelpful. TiA.

It might not be ideal, but I don't see the harm in trying to split some now and bringing it with you.

Rhubarb is a tough plant. I’m a believer of fall transplanting, but I bet you could pull it off now.

Dig out a clump, don’t injure the root ball, keep it moist and get it into the new home quickly.

Fill the new hole with dirt from the old place, and keep it well watered for a while.
