Chances are that there are not large numbers of others in the house.

Eliminate possible sources of food and water, and do a little hunting with a black or UV light.

I hope that he was just the vanguard, but usually where there is one, you can be sure to find others. There are three things they need: food, water, and shelter. Get rid of their food source and they will leave. If there is no water, both they and their food source will leave. If there is no shelter, then, once again, they tend to leave.

You can’t really spray for them; they hold themselves up off the ground and thus step over anything you put down. Any spray they get is usually pretty minimal. Spraying does, however, tend to get rid of the food source (see above). You say it was found on the dish rag? The kitchen provides usually all the things they need. You could look at it as he’s your buddy, eating any pests he can find.

The fact that you found it shows me that (a) you may have pests and (b) it may be bad enough to bring in the predators. And they can get into spots that you would swear that was impossible, just like roaches. Just like mice. Are you sure that he didn’t get carried in? Have you seen any outside?

One house I lived in had them in the house as well as outside. It was situated on the edge of a large wooded area, intermixed with meadows (if you could call them that). They were “rare”, but there. Another place 20 miles away? Haven’t seen any. Spiders, yes. Scorpions, no.

Here in the US they are not much more poisonous than a bee or wasp. Stings are PAINFUL however. Wear shoes and make sure that things are shaken out before you put them on. Chances of one being in your shoes or clothes are small, but have I said the stings are painful? The one encounter I had in the house resulted in a pain-driven fury that only one of us survived.

The only way I know to be sure to get rid of them is to nuke. From orbit. Even then, I’m not sure you would get them all. Not everyone is willing to get that drastic, however.

We have scorpions in the drier areas of Hawaii but centipedes are the real enemy. I use sticky traps ... under furniture and beds, behind doors, under sinks, anywhere I can think of where they are out of sight. Especially helpful near entrance doors. When encountered my weapon of choice is scissors. Gotta cut them up in pieces and then take the remains outside to the trash can.

Regarding scorpion stings not being dangerous:
I recall learning 25 years ago or so that, while true that stings are not dangerous in most of the U.S., a sting from some scorpions in Arizona can cause pancreatitis.

Things may have changed over the past 25 years - this subspecies may have spread or disappeared, but depending on where you live, this is worth keeping in mind.
