zinc strips on shingled roof

I'm reading different opinions on zinc strips on the roof peak as to whether or not it helps to prevent moss from growing back.
I've trimmed back shade trees and will clean the moss off with some vinegar and dish soap.
Anyone zinc stripped their roofs to positive effect?

I used exposed copper strips rather than zinc just under the cap course and the roof has been mildew free for 15+ years. Our older garage roof has no copper and plenty of mildew...

not doing a damn thing here in Seattle on my garage. The best solution is getting copper powder infused shingles next time you re-shingle.

Dad threw pennies up on our low sloped roof. on a result vs cost basis, it was pretty successful. The new copper over zinc are too light to stay put would be my guess.

You can still buy the old copper pennies at around $5/lb. plus shipping.

Or just check your own pennies. The ones minted before 1982 are solid copper and there are still plenty in circulation.
