Maverick is inbound.

I've seen Top Gun:Maverick twice now, and loved it.

First viewing was on a standard big screen with digital projection and surround sound.

Loved the whole movie, with a slight spoiler — Hangman was no Iceman, and he annoyed me, a lot.

But the rest of the movie rocked for me.

Lots of great moments, and all the callbacks to Top Gun were really appreciated.

I think it was a producer who said Tom said there'd be no movie without Val Kilmer.

Kilmer was great, and I was verklempt.

Then I saw it again on Tuesday, in IMAX.

WOW.

First, the audio was spectacular, and loud but not too loud.

The action scenes occasionally broke 85dB to 92dB, according to the Noise app on my Watch.

Its accuracy could be challenged, sure.

But normal conversation of the characters was at an appropriate level and didn't make my ears bleed, unlike my experience with Die Another Day in IMAX.

I wanted to see it in 4DX (?) where the seats move according to the action in the movie, but the show had to make way for something else, and Jurassic Park XXVII is coming.

The Blu-Ray will be a must for me, one of the few discs I'll have bought in a long time

Maybe iTunes will have it with some extras, for purchase.

I'm really, really glad I saw it on the big and bigger screens.

VR goggles would be so cool!

I saw Top Gun on Day One, and had no idea what was in store.

As parking was at a premium at that particular theater, I rode my bike — a 1L Interceptor.

The ride home was extraordinarily— brisk.

Not a bright move in my part but it was a great ride home.

30+ years later, it's a good thing I went by car.

My current bike is a sport-tourer so the ride would have been restrained— barely.

I think movies generally have a 45 day theatrical release before going to steaming/disc/whatever.

Apparently Tom wanted a 120 day release and got it.

I may try to see it again.

good on Tom for demanding a 120 day window, that's pretty long these days, but means that it will play all summer long, into the fall season. I suppose some people will see that as taking away from other films, but I'm all for anything that returns some of the excitement to the theater. of course, I'm not paying $20-23 to see it, but I will pay $12 or so when it comes to the matinee and later on. or Blu-Ray.

when you're traveling inbound or outbound, you're on the subway system here.

I think men universally seem to love Top Gun, both 1&2.
It was one if my husband's favorite movies.
For me, they were both good, but just not really my thing. I think it’s a guy thing. Lol

Watched TG #1 back when it came out; thought it was only so-so. Tried watching it again this past week to refresh my memory what with TG #2 coming out soon.

It did NOT hold up well IMHO. Cartoonish characters. ludicrous plot devices. Maybe I've just outgrown the formulaic "action" genre.

Might be a guy thing, but I can't stand Tom Cruise. Don't know why.

I do want to see the new Top Gun Maverick in a theater. I wasn't willing to go to a full theater with COVID on the rise again. We considered a drive in but with shows not starting until nine PM that is too late on top of the 45 minute drive there.

But this week I've been hanging around with my new friend 'Rona....so I guess I can go see the movie in theaters once she leaves...

Haha, same situation here! When we go back to the theater, we'll probably go to an early showing (usually mid-day). Those showings are usually pretty empty.

I happened to see Top Gun on a charter bus overnight trip to Disneyland >90% full of college women. I assume the movie was their choice. While it wasn't particularly carefully watched as socializing and napping is always better, just the intro music to the volleyball scene opened and directed all eyes to the screen.

So there's a little something for everyone.

After hearing/reading so much positive about the new one, I watched the original TG last week. I honestly don't remember whether I ever saw it back in the day. Like some others, for some reason I just don't like Cruise. I can acknowledge his abilities as an actor, and everything I've read about him from other actors indicates he's a really nice guy. I just can't separate him from the cult-like Scientology thing. That's probably unfair, but that's the way it is.

Back to the film, at least in the original, I found his character just so unlikeable. But then those types of personalities tent to rub me the wrong way anyway. And I have such respect for the ability of those pilots. Guess I'm just a fan of the quiet confidence kind of guy rather than the arsehole. ;)

With reserved seating I was able to check the number of tickets sold before buying.

There was always the chance of a bunch of walk-ins at the last minute, but that didn't happen.

The first show had maybe about twelve people or less, IMAX topped out at twenty or less.

Everybody except for two people were maskedup.

I've got a bunch of the COVID kits, so I suppose I could self-test, but I'll dig in for a couple of weeks anyway.

It's an interesting situation in that Alameda County has gone back to maskingup indoors, and I've never stopped.

Yet the reason for masking up is an uptick in COVID cases, LOL.

As long as I don't get to hurling, and maybe avoid the whole death thing, it was so worth it.

Maverick is awesome. Saw it for the 4th time yesterday via IMAX. Saw it twice in a regular theater, once in Cinemark XD and now the IMAX. I'd say the Cinemark XD experience was the best with IMAX #2.

Awesome movie. Hits all the story and nostalgia points for me as well. Saw original Top Gun on opening day in 1986. Also love Days of Thunder which is one of my all time favorites...even though it's totally cheesy.

I may go one more time before it hits paramount plus.

I've listened to the soundtrack a number of times now too.

Love it!!
