I can vouch for Terro traps too. Very effective with the ants we need to deal with here...

When I had a “stick & brick” most summers I’d get those tiny ants invading. Terro bait trap ALWAYS solved the problem quickly.

Hi everyone,

It sounds like the Terro traps resolved a symptom of the problem. Meaning, it killed the ants coming in each summer. You still have an ant problem, which you won't solve by treating its symptoms. You need to use an appropriate pesticidal bait system that the ants will take back to the nest. That way, you'll kill off the source of the problem, i.e. kill the workers and queen(s). Do that and you won't have the ants returning each year.

^^^
That is how Terro works. The poison is taken back to the nest, killing the colony.

Ombligo,

Depends on which type of Terro product. Even if it is the type of bait ants take back to the nest to kill the nest, if they keep returning, the product isn’t doing the job. It’s time to switch products and/or use a professional pesticide or bring in a professional. I get my gear from [www.domyown.com].

Haven't needed them this year...yet. But they are very effective, and usually end the problem.

if they kill the ants you should see dead ants in the trap

if they take the position and feed back to the nest, you won't see dead ants around the trap but you will see fewer ants over the next days/weeks

of course a new colony will start next year, so you have do do it again.

I use borax and sugar. Terro is often made of borax anyway.

I used to use borax and sugar and it is the principle combo to Terro.
But whatever pheromone or magic elixir Terro adds kicks any butt.
As my op said, every year they return, and every year we wipe 'em out in a day or 2. $6/y is $ well spent.
Now if gas were that cheap ......

Hi everyone,

A common issue in this thread (and other threads about getting rid of insect pests is nobody mentions which specific product they're using for the task. In this thread, about Terro products and ants, is a good example of the issue.

Terro produces a slew of products for killing ants ranging from liquid baits, granular bait to aerosol and various sprays. Each serves a different purpose though often you can use one type for several tasks.

Please say which specific Terro ant control product you're using since it'll make it easier for other people to check and see if it's suitable for their specific situation.

FWIW, a one-type-fits-all solution doesn't really exist. Not for ants or any other insect pest.

Me, too. Yes, the ants do come back in a year or more, but it takes one day to get rid of them for another year or more.

We have a granular terro which we have applied around some larger ant hills in our yard (where it seems like they’ve killed the grass), and that’s been effective…except for the largest ant complex right next to our driveway.

We’ve treated that like, three times. At first it seemed to knock them down for a couple of days, but more recently, they seem impervious, and my wife says she’s seen the ants carrying the granules out of the anthill openings. (Really, tho I haven’t seen that yet).

They’ve caught on! We’re done fer.
