Had a stroke last Tuesday. Not progressing very well.

I was on the phone and my speech was not right. I got my brother to take me to the ER. My blood pressure was 224 over 120 something. I had lots of tests done and the doctor blamed it on the BP and didn’t say I had a stroke although my speech was off and my mouth was misshapened. I missed my medicine the night before because I was too tired to go to the other end of the house and take my medicine. I got back on my 75mg Atenolol that night but it hasn’t got below about 200/70 since. I’m wondering about accuracy of the meter. Also, I have a disease called Myeloproliferative Neoplasm w/Essential Thrombocythemia that is known for causing heart attacks and strokes. My speech is getting more unintelligible and my stamina is not holding up. My niece is a nurse practitioner and is working with me. The doctor doesn’t seem very confidence-building.

A family member in health care can be a strong advocate. I've seen it with my own niece working with my father after a stroke.

Hang in there!

If it helps you any, a friend of mine had a stroke on his 31st birthday... affected his speech fairly badly. It took several months of therapy, but, no one but his close friends and family can tell he ever had a stroke. He just celebrated his 54th birthday on wednesday.

Wish I had something more useful to say, or great medical information to relate.

BP is still dangerously high… I say head back to the hospital immediately!

I have to echo getting further care ASAP. I’ve down the road of a serious condition not being treated seriously enough, with the worst possible outcome the result. Be a PITA if necessary. There are no do overs.

So sorry to learn of your condition Dennis. I think you need to ditch that doctor asap and find one who is more inclined to quickly help you. I agree with others that you might be best off going back to the hospital. Hope you get the support and help you need very soon.

My blood pressure won’t get below 200 on the top number. The bottom number is is normal 90% of the time. Today, one week after the event, it’s 225. I’ve started a diuretic this morning. Thank y’all for your concern and tips so far.

What you're describing represents some serious degree of malpractice, get yourself to another provider - STAT.
