“ Entrances to Yellowstone Park Are Closed After Heavy Rain and Floods “

“ Visitors were evacuated from the northern section of the park, where there were multiple mudslides and where the roads and bridges have failed, Mr. Sholly said in a statement. Parts of the community of Gardiner, a hamlet of about 800 people that serves as the main northern entrance to the park, had no power or water and were receiving aid from the authorities in Montana, he said.

Visitors in the southern portion of the park will also be evacuated, with forecasts of rising flood levels causing concern about water supplies and wastewater systems, said Mr. Sholly, who was named superintendent of the park in 2018.

Heavy rain on Sunday and snowmelt unleashed the flooding, which will continue to make its way through the river system on Tuesday through northwest Wyoming and southwest Montana, the National Weather Service said. “

I don’t know why this type of thing keeps happening lately but certainly bad timing for summer visitors.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

It's no small feat to get out there for most people in the country. Huge foreign tourist draw, too. We've gone twice, and to be turned back at the gate would be a monumental disappointment to be sure.

Yellowstone is the most magnificent place I think I have ever been.
We went in March, about 7-8 years ago. I would love to go back, but it is a trek to get there.

I agree! We have been there twice, and I'd like to go back again. It personifies "America the Beautiful".

I have a nephew out near Gardiner , camping with his family, and am waiting for news that they are ok.

I'm just hoping all this water makes its way downstream to Lake Powell and Lake Mead.

The outflow from Yellowstone either goes down the Snake River and eventually the Colombia, or down the Yellowstone to the Missouri and eventually the Mississippi. Water from the west side of the Wind River mountains goes down the Green River, (begins about 90 mi. south of Yellowstone) which joins the Colorado in Canyonlands National Park.
