Strange router behavior

Anyone know what might be happening if I do a hard reset on a router, but it’s still password protected? The SSID changed from the previous name to the default router name, but it still shows the lock icon and prompts for a password. Is there such a thing as a firmware lock on routers that I won’t be able to get past?

Have you tried the generic password and administrator?

There's often a factory default user/password. The label on the bottom of the router usually says what it is for more recent routers, if it's not there the user manual or a google search for the specific model might help.

I can’t get on the network to log in to the router.

I suppose I have a couple old computers around here somewhere with Ethernet I could try, but I haven’t had to do that in years. Just moved, so finding stuff is still kind of a deal.
