I just got back from seeing Maverick a third time.

God, I love this movie.

I really, really love this movie.

I honestly can't think of a movie I've seen that comes close, and I liked Top Gun a lot and have watched it a lot.

Something that I didn't expect is how many Top Gun pilot/instructors have weighed in, positively.

There's always someone who wants to show off by counting all the reasons it's not a documentary, without considering that it's not a documentary.

These pilot/instructors talked about all the stuff the movie got right and how so much of it (not necessarily the mission) mirrored their experiences in NFWS and in the fleet, in 14s and 18s.

One guy, Wade Carroll, 16yrs a Tomcat RIO, was talking about Maverick and had a few issues with it.

The guy he interviewed, a friend who was a Top Gun pilot/instructor corrected Carroll on a number of thing he missed, which then made the movie 'right' for him.

To see real-deal drivers be so invested was way cool.

Oh, and two more shows and I'm a movie Ace.

It's a good movie. It's not a documentary. I spent 20 years supporting the fighter community, and while I can see a lot of Hollywood silliness in the flick, I'm totally fine with all that.

Go see it, it's good!

I agree with RAMmie: There is something special about this movie... the least of which being how well it showcases Cruise's tremendous growth as an actor since the original.

TG: M is as perfect a movie as I have come across in some time.

Still not seen it, but you guys give me hope (of which I originally had none) that it lives up to the original.

I 100% hear what you're saying; when I saw the trailer I was going, "you gotta be kidding." Much to my pleasant surprise, (I wasn't even planning on seeing it until the reviews came in), it not only lives up, it is MUCH better than the original.

I really like Top Gun, I can't say it enough.

But just about everything others didn't like about it isn't in Maverick, or has been fixed.

The BD, when it comes out, is supposed to have about two-hours worth of behind the scenes material.

There's a lot to this movie, and on my third viewing, there's little things I missed in previous shows.

When I watch videos of TG pilot-instructors singing its praises, I want to see it again.

They understand it's a movie, but at the very very least, it celebrates among other things, BFM.

There were three scenes that left me verklempt, and then to see that these drivers deeply moved, too...


Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning - Part One comes out sometime in 2023.

Along with Cruise (of course) it will also have Indira Varma, Rebecca Ferguson and Hayley Atwell, and some, so I'm all in.

At the movies, its trailer had a lot of stuff from previous MI films and a few things from Reckoning.

Terrific stunts, beautiful women, what more could one want!

I know I'll like it a lot, but I won't love it the way I love Maverick.

Thanks for the recs for Maverick, I'll defo check it out when I have time. Ordinarily I'd have passed but it sounds like a few someones did their homework and some dern fool didn't screw it up in post.
