watch out.! they are known Russian spies and car thieves ... not necessarily in that order.

Harmless. Will run from you. But they do like to burrow and hide in crawl spaces. Don't ask how I know.
But if they do, 24 light, billie eyelash on 11 all night. Ammonia, fox pee (yech), garlic, onion, hot pepper & sauce, dog fur, certain previous president.

They really take to 1972 246 Dino in blue. So you can send yours to reside with me for a while.

My first thought was rattus rattus, but the way in moves, I agree probably (smallish) possum.

Be proud, this is North America's last remaining native marsupial. Not all marsupials live in Australia!

Yep, that's an Opussum, or just Possum as well call them.

Closer looks at one-

Looks like the thing that comes out at night and eats the leftover Cat food that I feed my Ferrel neighborhood cats.

Looks up at me and waddles away when I yell at it....

Oh yes, they love cat food, well any food.
It will hiss at you if you get close enough.

That sounds like a scene from the film Of Unknown Origin, a much better film than it's title would suggest.

We had a rat on our ring last night. There had been a feral cat in the neighborhood last year, but we haven't seen it lately. We had some mice that we'd seen, and they soon disappeared. I wish the cat would come back.

I know, aren't they cool? They're kinda dopey walkers, perhaps slightly less uncomfortable runners. And they also have personality as they love to hiss at you if you're eye-level with them (they're on a fence or wall).

Every encounter destined to be memorable.
