....'da best....

T-Mobile Named 'Best' U.S. Mobile Network in 2022 Carrier Showdown

.....T-Mobile is the "best" carrier in the United States when factoring in connection speed and reliability, according to PCMag's annual mobile network comparison, the results of which were released today.

PCMag drove over 10,000 miles through 30 cities to test AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon connection speeds. In the past, this study focused on the fastest connections, but this year, PCMag looked for the best overall network. T-Mobile ended up winning in 18 out of 30 cities, while Verizon won in eight and AT&T won in four.

In terms of pure speed, T-Mobile won in 19 cities, Verizon in nine, and AT&T and two, with Verizon hitting the highest download speeds at 3891Mb/s. T-Mobile had the best average download speed across all tests at 264.4Mb/s, beating out Verizon's average speed of 156.8Mb/s and AT&T's average speed of 79Mb/s. T-Mobile also had average upload speeds that beat out Verizon and AT&T.

T-Mobile has improved its service in rural areas, though it still had more data dead zones outside of the rural Northeast than Verizon and AT&T. T-Mobile had the best 5G coverage because of its Sprint acquisition, which came with mid-band spectrum, but AT&T and Verizon may catch up at some point in the future.

PCMag was testing 5G speeds, so the fastest connections will require a 5G smartphone. The testing indicates that on T-Mobile and Verizon, there is a growing gulf between 4G speeds and 5G speeds. Verizon and T-Mobile have "dramatically increased nationwide speeds" thanks to the expansion of mid-band 5G networks, but AT&T's speed has dropped.

All tests were done with the Samsung Galaxy S22+, a device that had the "best network performance" in PCMag's test. Scores were weighted with speed accounting for 60 percent of the score and reliability accounting for 40 percent. Call success, data success, download speeds, upload speeds, and latency were all taken into account.

PCMag's full results can be read over at its website for those interested in a deeper breakdown of the scores achieved by AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. The site also has detailed information by region and for each city that was visited.

the...............best.................?!

Though the service appears fine, AT&T has horrendous customer service. I've been toying around with jumping ship for years (only kept b'c of the number of phones we administer) but I think it's time to go.

My son and his roommates have T-Mobile and are very happy with it.

My only concern is coverage; my wife and daughter travel throughout the region for work (sticking primarily to interstate routes FWIW) and I don't want them dealing with dead zones.

We were with Verizon for years and switched last year to T-Mobile. Zero problems, full coverage and lots of fast 5G where I am. I'm getting more stuff for less $$ compared to Verizon. Free Netflix for as long as you are a customer and free Apple+ for a year.

It's all subjective. T-Mobile may be great for some people, and suck for others. Same for AT&T and Verizon. My in-laws live in an area where only AT&T's service would get a signal (one bar). The other carriers at the time had no service. It's gotten a lot better though. I've been in areas where I have a strong signal, and people with other carriers have a weak signal. And vice-versa. Pick what works best for you where you tend to spend most of your time.

been with T-Mo for a decade or so. There are some coverage issues, but they were only to happy to send me their wifi router years ago and since then, 2 different cell spots that plug into the interwebs Cat5. 5 bars all the time with that.
as mstudio said, free Flix and ATV.
as you pass the MD line and the Mississippi, there are some spotty areas, but no worse than the other 2.
But check their coverage map. Zoom in though. Don't just take magenta for granted.
If you travel overseas and you're over 55 for the Magenta plan, it's a great deal. I pay $75/mo for 2 lines unlimited everything and free overseas TXT in ~200 counties. I think .25¢/min to talk overseas.

I’ve been with T since before they were T, Voicestream. Only company I’ve ever used. They should send me a free sticker.

Where my mom lives only used to be serviced reliably by Verizon. I think ATT has signal there now. I have no idea about TMobile. I might need to check and see what the map looks like

I had Sprint since 1999. I didn't want them to merge with T-Mobile. But, T-Mobile significantly reduced the amount of my bill and I see no difference in coverage, which is a good thing.

Another happy user for 20 years. Still, we pay significantly more than other parts of the world. But tmo is the best of our expensive services.

Went through 3 or 4 cell providers before landing with TM a decade ago, service has been first rate so much so we're now on TM internet and bank online with TM bank.

TM goes down, I'm screwed.

Another TM proponent. Used to work for VZ, TT and Sprint. When I left ATT, I tried TM, with great trepidation.

Have been very pleased for close to 10 years now.

There was a time, about a dozen years ago, when I couldn't connect in more rural parts of New England, but that's apparently solved.

Had a problem with T-M calls being dropped when I moved to this house near downtown New Albany, IN. Called service and the guy did not see anything from his end that indicated that I should be having a problem but our call was dropped. He called me back and that call dropped. Called back again and declared that, yes, there really was a problem. I don't know what he did but after that third call he did something and all has been good since.
