We tried to teach mom iOS, but it was too late. Her ability to learn new techy things was GONE. She was pretty good on a computer and taught herself to use a digital camera and make ebay listings. But a few years later it was already too late to learn iOS.

Android, or some other os that's proprietary to that phone? No iPhones.

I have absolutely zero experience with them, but a quick search turns up these two options:

Jitterbug Smart 3

Samsung Galaxy (with "Easy Mode" enabled)

we got mom the jitterbug non-smart phone and pay WAY too much for it, but it's the only thing that mom can use effectively. I imagine their smart phone would be your best option. The non smart phone even has a 'dial tone'

A lot depends on your mom. My mother is 99 and uses her iPad Pro for everything. She has no smart phone but obviously she could if she wanted to.

I think most people on this forum are seniors. Don't most of us have iPhones? Personally, I think that an iPhone without a bunch of complicated apps is pretty darn easy to use, which was the source of its original appeal.
