Another 'wildlife' record - This time it's in Florida

A team of Florida wildlife biologists captured the largest Burmese
python ever discovered in the state, officials announced Thursday.
The gargantuan female serpent, considered an invasive species in
Florida, measured nearly 18 feet long and weighed 215 pounds,
according to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.

The snake was caught last December in the Everglades following a 20
minute wrestling match with biologists, but researchers left the python
in a freezer until April.
During a necropsy, the snake was found to have 122 eggs developing
in its abdomen — breaking another record for the most eggs female
python can produce in a breeding cycle, according to the conservancy.

The snake's last meal was reportedly a white tail deer!

I liked the stingray story a LOT better.
I do not need to see an 18’ long snake that can eat a deer. barf smiley

Soooooo general snake question: where does the tail start? If it's right behind its butt, then where's the butt? I haven't yet coaxed a snake to sit up on a chair so as to ID the buttal location but perhaps one of you fine people has done this research?

Paging Stephanie!....I think she's long gone from the forum, though.

There is a part where the body narrows, where the tail begins. I think in the picture it begins where the file cabinet meets the narrow white wall in the background. IIRC, it's a more obvious taper point on females; the transition is smoother in males. It looks kinda stubby, here, maybe 2 feet?

On the underside you can find the urogenital pore, which would be where the tail attaches.
