In Monte Carlo, they're all street legal! For the race, that is.

Interesting read, so VW Group is only back as a powertrain supplier...
Quote
Stuttcars.com -
Although their last foray into the series was in 1991, their parent company,
the VW Group, recently reached an agreement with the FIA that for the
next set of regulation changes, slated to happen in 2026, Audi and
Porsche will become new power unit suppliers.

It'll be interesting to see if Honda, Renault, Mercedes-AMG, & Ferrari
remain. methinks Ferrari will stay.

iirc, back in '84 Porsche has a 1.5L Twin Turbo engine that hit 600+ HP.

I think they all stay, too much invested, but it'll take Porsche a couple years to find their footing, as it were.
Beetle with a V6. giggle giggle giggle giggle

Honda pulled out last year-This year it is Red Bull using the last of the Honda Tech. They are developing their own "Honda" engine, but there are some back room rumors going on.

To be clear, at this point it is Porsche ENGINES for F1 cars that’s being discussed, NOT a Porsche F1 TEAM.

I believe for Porsche (or any other new team) to be in the field, either one of the current teams would have to withdraw, or Porsche would have to take a current team over and rebrand it (like Racing Point became Aston Martin*).

*Jordan Grand Prix became Midland F1 Racing became Spyker F1 became Force India became Racing Point Force India became Racing Point F1 Team…

I can't believe Haas and Williams are still in it.
I know nothing about AlphaT and Alpine.
I think there's room for one of them to drop out or be bought by VW/Porsche. They have the $.
I wish Volvo were in it. They have deep pockets available.

There will always be a worst two teams. As long as they're not totally uncompetitive, and can find sufficient money/sponsors...

Alpha Tauri had been Toro Rosso, which gives a clue to its lineage

Pronounced "All-peen", it's previous seasons' Renault

The U.S.'s Andretti Autosport is trying to get approval to field an F1 team.

Interesting flavor to be renamed after.

There is a newer version of the Alpine, the Alpine A110 (2017)

"In January 2021, Alpine said it would absorb the Renault Sport entities (Renault Sport Cars and Renault Sport Racing), merging them with the existing Alpine operations to form a new Alpine business unit. The company also said it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Lotus Cars to co-develop an electric successor for the A110. In May 2021, Les Ulis-based Renault Sport Cars was officially renamed as Alpine Cars and turned into the main development hub for Alpine as well as the whole Renault group sports cars."

Can't imagine Volvo's Chinese Overlords writing checks for racing.

Geely has surprised me a couple times. But I doubt it too.

Them earlier era F1 cars are sweeter looking without all the ads flashing by at 200mph, but man the smack ups from then were horrific.

Not that a current F1 isn't, but seems more drivers walk away from 200mph collisions lately.

But it's probably blue screen or some moon landing bull5h1t.

Since it's about bragging rights more than anything now, I could believe it. Winners no longer use the trophy to sell cars.

Maybe not the cars you or I would buy, but the F1/Grand Prix mystique can help sell Ferraris, Aston Martins, Alpha Romeos and Mercedes Benzs.

A different era entirely now from the era you are thinking of. Potential buyers are far more interested in the Nurburgring lap times.

1. Forgot to include Maclaren as an F1 team that also manufactures and sells cars to the public.

2. If not for the admiration-by-association it imparts to their consumer automobiles, why do you think they field F1 teams?
