Another eBay question - buyer wants to return item

I sold a Fitbit on eBay. It's new, in original packaging. I gave the model number in the description. The listing was "returns not accepted".

A couple of days ago, I got a message saying the buyer wants to return, because "it doesn't work with his/her phone."

Today I got a return request saying, "it doesn't fit."

In the return request, eBay says I'm not obligated to accept the return.

I replied saying if the buyer reimbursed my shipping g costs both ways, I wOuld accept the return.

Did I make a mistake? Should I have just refused the return? Could I receive negative feedback if I refused the return?

You opened yourself to the risk that they pay the $10 or so for shipping and you get back an open and devalued (or damaged) device with little recourse. I would point them to ebay's policies and say you had a change of heart. Doesn't work with your phone? Get another phone. One-size fits all device doesn't fit? It makes a great Christmas gift.

yes

Did I hear that buyers can no longer give sellers negative feedback? Or was it just retaliatory feedback? Or a dream, perhaps?

Well it's no longer new in original packaging so if you take it back you'll have to sell it as used now.

you should have said no. I think if you get a neg, you can reply/rebut I believe. At least you could in the past.

....another reason stopped selling on Ebay....some think Ebay is like a store.....the value of the 'new' item is now less since it is 'used'.....should have said no [ stupid buyers on Ebay ]......
