i have ~20 year old family videos which were edited in iMovie and then exported to iDVD. I'd like to "rip" these videos and save them into a format that i can share or watch via apple tv.
what's the easiest method?

So are they on physical DVD discs, or are they iDVD project files?

Easiest would be to find someone running Mojave or earlier who still has iDVD on their mac, transfer the files to them and they can export it as something useable.

No problemo. If VLC is the Swiss Army Knife of video playback, Handbrake is the equivalent for getting to a modernized file format/codec.
