Several years ago, a friend brought me about six, used, cross country skis. Apparently, there is a ski graveyard in Whistler.

The long-term plan was to take the skis over to our retirement home (on an island in British Columbia) and build a small platform for jump roping. The idea was to place a square of gym flooring over the skis. The camber of the skis would add an extra bit of spring for jump roping.

Given the recent problems with my knee, I don't anticipate jumping rope while retired. That's okay, there are plenty of other aerobic exercises.

Any thoughts on how to dispose of the never-to-be-used-again skis? My current plan is to just cut them down to size and put them in the dumpster. Any better ideas?

Sorry, I don't have picture handy, but BIL/SIL cut them down and made them into feet/bases for the outdoor planter boxes near their BBQ island.
BIL cut out the name/logo sections of the skis and attached them to the sides of the planter boxes.... totally cool way to "dispose" of the old skis.

If they're wood, hang them up in the traditional crossed skis configuration at your ski cabin in the mountains.

Great ideas. I'm not in a position to act on any of them. I'm more in frantically-disposing-things-so-they-don't-have-to-be-moved mode. Plus, these aren't even matched pairs. The skis were given to me from a wall of abandoned skis in Whistler. The idea was always to cut off the tails and tips, remove the bindings, and secure them in a 4' X 4' frame to jump on.

Don't really have the tools, time, or space to do anything creative with them. I'm wondering more what concerns should there be about cutting them up. Will be wearing a mask. Maybe gloves to protect against fibreglass splinters.

Are they in good shape? If so, contact a local Scout Troop to see if they want them. My son's troop collected a bunch of used Cross Country Skis. They use them every winter.

How about as edging for a garden?

Or else just bury them in the yard somewhere.

Long tongue depressors?

Counting time to find a saw, broom, and necessary keys, it took about 1 3/4 hours to cut-and-snap six cross country skis so they fit in the dumpster. That project is done, and I didn't cut myself.

Am revving up for a bout of extreme shedding. Items that were once important are now nuisances. I'm sure many of you have experienced similar situations.

I’d get a Milwaukee M-18 saw out and be done in < 15 minutes total.
