Trying to get Safari 15.6 on Catalina 10.15.6

I have two 2011 Macs running Catalina (DosDude1) as follows:

MacBookPro8,2 (Late 2011)
- Catalina 10.15.6 (with DosDude1 software)
- Safari 14.0.2
NOTE: The MacBook Pro is on 10.15.6 since the WiFi will not work on 10.15.7

MacMini5,3 Server (Mid 2011)
- Catalina 10.15.7 (with DosDude1 software)
- Safari 15.6

The Mac Mini gets updates for Safari, currently on Safari 15.6. However, my MacBook Pro is stuck on Safari 14.0.2. Since I am running DosDude1 hacks for Catalina, my Safari update problem may be an incompatibility somewhere in that software.

Any suggestions?

I assume you will need Catalina 10.15.7 on the MacBook Pro to get the newer version of Safari on it. Update Catalina first.

This is pretty common where Apple has certain versioning requirements before other updates become available.

I'm guessing that in addition to it requiring 10.15.7, it probably also requires all of the security updates too.

07/15/2020 10.15.6 was released
09/24/2020 10.15.7 was released
.... 15 earlier security updates were released
07/20/2022 Security Update 2022-005 was released
07/20/2022 Safari 15.6 was released

Over the years I've noticed with software update after I install all pending updates, it will then show a new lone Safari update, so I don't think it will even offer to install it until all previous system updates are installed.

Especially with Safari this will be due to a required version of Webkit. Updates to that are often part of OS or security updates.

Maybe you could switch to Webkit.

Thanks everyone, I was wondering if being on 10.15.7 is likely the key. I know a few additional security updates are also included in 10.15.7. The inputs are all very good.

Since my MacBook Pro is more of an on-the-go machine for me, I like having WiFi capability on it. I will have to go explore if DosDude1 was able to resolve the WiFi issue. He did a pretty good job getting many loose ends to work on the unsupported machines. However, I think he reached an ending point with all those patches sometime back - he did well.

I will go explore what webkit.org is, not familiar with that yet.
