I know someone that is a student that just got this deal straight from Apple and at no time did they ask for verification of edu anything.

My son is a college student and I purchased a 14" for myself with the gift card bonus. No questions asked. Heck, I'm forking out thousands for his education, so the edu deal was appreciated.

Even better... we were vacationing in Portland earlier this month, so I scheduled the pickup for the Apple Store there, saving hundreds in sales tax (Oregon does not have sales tax).

Fear not, the tax man will do just fine on the rest of my purchases for the year.
