Unable to install firmware updater on my Canon laser printer

I FINALLY gave up on my ancient canon all in one and cracked open a box of printer that I bought 4 years ago at a great price assuming I'd be installing it soon.

Years later I am installing it... Instructions said to install drivers before plugging in - I downloaded the latest and installed them. Then I tried installing firmware updaters and none of them work. They all say 'try again' kinda error.

I've tried mac-lbp151-fw-v0411-64.dmg and mac-lbp151-fw-v0412-64.dmg

I've restarted the computer, the printer... I dunno... giving up for now, but thought that maybe someone else has been through this and might have advice...

How are you connected?

Java related, maybe?

What OS?

Maybe try from an older version, or (gasp) Windows.

not related to the hardware itself, I usually just reset the printing system when going new.
