Bought a fridge

What with all the appliance talk on here, I thought I'd chime in with my own piece.

The wife and I decided to be proactive and order a fridge before ours dies. Will be here by the end of August. Ended up going with GE. Nothing fancy. Opted for counter depth as we thought it would be better in our kitchen. Then after measuring our current fridge, realized it was already counter depth. Doh! Anyway, excited about its arrival.

Our current Fridge is over 18 years old now and was here when we moved in. So I feel like we've gotten our money's worth out of it. It makes strange noises and freezes things it shouldn't so I can only assume the end is near.

Cool cool.

A GE side by side is my next purchase to replace the defective Samsuck…

I also have an 18 year old fridge that fits that description. Top of the line KA, but it's been underwhelming for about 16 of those 18 years. I've been threatening to replace it for a decade, but I'm afraid of spending $$$ to exchange current frustrations for new ones. This might be the year.

Make sure the new one isn't taller than the old one...

Let us know how it works out. The fridge may say "GE", but it has been owned by Haier Group since 2016.

Heh, my parents for years wanted to replace the old GE we had tucked under the stairs but it seemed like every newer model was too tall, and we just didn't have the space in the kitchen layout to make any floorplan changes.

I do wonder what the current residents of that house have done!

Similar to what we did last fall. Ours was 15 years old, the compressor was making funny noises, and replacement and labor costs told us we should get a new one.
It took about 5-6 weeks to come in. Even though it is 15 years newer, the counter depth, french door fridge was almost identical in outside appearance. Inside is where the improvements are. The shelving and air flow are better and more logically set up. Extremely quiet running, etc.
The brand is LG, who knows the origin of the parts inside, had luck with LG before, hoping for 15 years out of this one.

My side-by-side Kenmore (Whirlpool) fridge is from 1996 & you'd have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Most fridges made today won't last anywhere near as long.

Maybe not. They are likely more efficient however.

2005 whirlpool here. It’s on its third ice maker, but otherwise trouble free from day one.

Last time I checked the calculator over at energy star.gov I'd save $3-$4/month versus ~$1,500 purchase price for a comparable model.

I am fortunate to have bought the first model year after OEMs added the extra insulation in response to the efficiency contest.
