RIP David Warner -- you know him from, well, everything

Time After Time, The Omen, Star Trek, Time Bandits, TRON, Titanic...

[variety.com]

My favorite role of his will always be the first I remember seeing him on film; as Jack the Ripper in Time After Time.

Zoid,

Dang! One of my favorite actors. Did a great job in some many movies and TV shows. For some reason, his appearance as Aldous Gajic in "Grail" on Babylon 5 stands out for me. It's one of the few times I ever saw him play a good guy. 'course, he was awesome as Evil in Time Bandits. That was the first time seeing him as an actor. Will always remember him for it.

I remember him from "The Island" [en.wikipedia.org] in which he played a character that was particularly creepy and vicious.

Rest in peace, Mister Warner.

Now I've got to see Time After Time!

If you've never seen it, it's a great film. Very original premise, excellent cast.

I don't see it streaming free anywhere, but it's cheap to rent ($3) or to buy ($10): [www.justwatch.com]

Just DON'T watch the trailer; this is from an era where they basically show all the big story elements in the trailer. Go into it blind if you can.

Gorkon in Star Trek 6

Even better as Gul Madrid in TNG "Chain of Command"

Zoid,

Agreed. Great movie. Definitely 100% better to ignore the trailer and just watch it. Well worth the minimal cost to rent it. Same goes for the movie Time Bandits. One of Warner's best roles. Very much worth the bucks to rent it. In the case of Time Bandits, I'd just buy the movie and be done with it.

I've saw him in earlier stuff, but Time After Time was the first time I could say 'Ah, that's David Warner', like I was in the know.

And he was good in Tron, too.

There were more 'serious' roles, but these are my two favorites.

Tron holds up really well for me, so I'll have to give Time another viewing.

David Warner was like Gene Hackman in that regard. He may have been IN bad movies, but he was never BAD in any movie.

Agreed.

This is also the way I feel about Nic Cage, though I recognize he's a very different actor than Warner.

I forget what film, or TV thing, but I recall seeing her at least 30 years ago in something and thinking, that is one hot older woman! Hee hee.
