Thanks for the tip on the trap...

I think P traps are outdated and S traps are the new standard in many places.

I don't care what letter of the alphabet you use, they all get funkay.

Other way around. S-traps are no longer allowed in many areas of the US. They can create a siphon effect that empties the trap.

.....so if someone says....'shut your P trap'.....this is what they mean.....??

Sorry, I got that wrong again.

I had to pull one last year. My daughter had dunked it up. Pulled, took it outside and blasted it with a hose gun.

Hope I don't need to do that again!

Before "pulling it", I'd put several ounces of baking soda, washed down with some white vinegar. Let that sit for 30 ~ 60 minutes and then dump a large pot of near boiling water to wash everything down. Let said trap cool before you put hands on it. Most of the "gunk" should have been washed further on down the line.

Of course, it's BEST to NOT "gunk it up" in the first place. NO grease (especially bacon grease) down the drain. An old coffee can is a good vessel to pour said grease into. Wipe the pot / pan with a paper towel before washing. MOST of the grease will NOT be going down the drain.

As for hair (and other "body effluvium") in bathroom drains, there are safe products which will soften / dissolve the gunk (but I'd still go with the above instructions for the "final rinse"

Are they all the same or is one better than others?
Homies has Hercules.
Lowes has Rector products.
Or is there something better to be had at the plumbing supply place?

What do you need PVC pipe "goo" for a P trap for? Are you gluing it together?

If so, I recommend against doing so.

Just use the slip joint type with the nylon washers - quick, cheap, easy to install, and easy to disassemble in the future.

.....'da ladies love my traps.....tomorrow is trap day, today is leg day, the day after arm day.....

Nope - no goo or glue. Hand tight, run water. If it leaks, tighten the nut half a turn. If it still leaks, make sure the pipes are straight.

the drain hose for the dw goes into the sink T is more or less level.
seems perhaps that it should have a camel hump to prevent sink back flow into the dw drain hose.
though it has existed for the decade and a half since the work was done and there have been no leaks, should this be corrected?
if so, clamp on a length of hose or replace, since I assume there is no check valve available?
There is no air gap and with granite counter, I ain't about to put one thru.
the KA/Whirlpool has a check valve at the bottom of it's sump.

I would lengthen the hose and just run it up higher inside the cabinet before it goes into the drain leg.

I would use a double end barb fitting with hose clamps on each end.
