Beloved DELL 2407WFP on its last legs, what to get next?

My DELL 2407WFP has served me well for seemingly forever but is starting to fail. Colors have a "solarized" look, occasional banding, oversaturated oranges, etc. What to get next? Thinking a 27 incher.

Currently, ol' Dell is the second monitor on my late 2014 iMac connected via a mini display port to DVI adaptor to DVI cable. This adapter from our kind sponsors ( [eshop.macsales.com] ) will give me me slow 4K HDMI as a video signal. Is HDMI a decent connection to monitors these days?

I will be doing some switching off with an i9 MBP16 from time to time. I do have a cheap dongle (HooToo) with an HDMI port but have not tried it with an HDMI monitor yet. With the dongle I bought for a friend, the HDMI connection flickered just enough to be annoying, so we had to use the VGA port on the dongle to connect to her monitor.

I'm thinking of a USB-C connectable monitor to future proof myself.

Anyone know the differences of the Dell U, P, and S series? I know U gonna cost more. I'm open to other brands too, that 2407 was just a workhorse.

Thanks in advance, all.

I still have dual 2407s on my MacPro at work, but they are dimming around the edges. Don't go into the office much anyway.

I think 27" I a really good size to go for. Right now I have a 32" 4K LG, and it just feels too large and the text to small. I couldn't leave it at native resolution; I have it set at slightly lower scaled resolution in the Displays panel.

I'm not sure how much of a thing USB-C monitors is going to be. I should think HDMI or DisplayPort are going to be your best bet going forward.

Dell UltraSharp used to offer the highest image quality, but not sure how the product lines have evolved lately.

I'm in the same boat. My eight year old Dell Ultrasharp U2412M has started blinking (Off/On, Off/On, etc) after warming up for a few minutes.

I'm also interested in alternate choices. Looks like the least expensive Ultrasharp is a 24" for $365

OK, just get a Dell 27" Monitor - the S2721DS w/ adjustable stand for $300, and be done w/ it.

Sure, the U2723QE is a sweet Ultrasharp 4K/USB-C ride at more than double the price, or you can channel Baby Buzz and option up to the 240Hz Alienware Gaming variant for the really big bucks (but don't, unless you're a serious gamer). OTOH, the 4K UHD S2722QC USB-C Monitor is in between...., but if you're gonna go there, ya might as well option up to that $600+ Ultrasharp w/ its ports up the wazoo.... basically, $300 for a darn decent, plain ol' 27" monitor, or $615 for a kick-ass 27" monitor w/ all the bells & whistles.

Our amazing 30" Dell U3011 is still going strong as a daily driver going on a dozen years.
Hopefully your soon to be new U2723QE will provide you many good years, too.

As I type this, I have a U2410 and 2408WFP running. Both are in pretty good shape. I also have a spare 2408 around somewhere... it has a bit of a red cast, but not too bad. I'm glad I went with these rather than a newer 16:9 aspect monitor... I really like having the small extra bit of real estate.

Wave and Rob,

Look no further than rtings for information:

Wave, what are you doing on the machine? That dictates which direction you go towards when it comes to a display.

For Rob since he mentioned lightroom/photoshop/Final Cut Pro
