Seems to be a German name; has no silent letters.

Their own TV commercials pronounce it KID-uh (schwa e).

1. Actually that's what I was shooting for with "Kid•eh"... •ah, •eh, •uh dunno smiley

*Correct is ah'•dee •dahs, accent on the first syllable, not the second.

Porsche is another proper name that cracks me up.

I've never heard a representative say the name, and haven't been interested in known what the manufacture uses.

But I've seen many a 'spirited' discussion of how it's supposed to be pronounced via the 'Porsch' and 'Porsche' devotees.

You can pronounce Kiddet anyway you want but that doesn't change anything. There is a correct way and an incorrect way to pronounce it. Pronounce Kidde the incorrect way and you're not saying Kidde. You're saying something else. Just like people pronouncing library correctly or, pronouncing it "lieberry" which is most certainly incorrect.

Yep. It's German. Pretty easy to figure out.

One thing I've noticed traveling some of the planet, other cultures make more of an effort in pronouncing things the way they're intended but in the US many take pride in pronouncing it however they want.

Of course how much emphasis is on that ending "...uh" sound will depend on which regional German dialect is spoken. Standardized German has spread, but not replaced the various dialects found across Germany.
