Our utility, a co-op, gets its power via a consortium of co-ops that own and operate a large coal fired station sitting right next to a coal mine sitting right next to the Missouri River in North Dakota. That consortium is getting out of the coal generation business in spite of all the ‘convenience’ of their station because renewables, primarily wind, are cheaper. They tried to sell the station for $1 but there were no takers so they were going to shut it down. However, North Dakota, one of the top three dirty energy states, through its legislature, is keeping the station running by finding a buyer for the valuable transmission grid as long as they keep the dirty station open.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

It is short-sighted, but I think China wants to "win", and they probably will.

Maybe we should stop buying things made in China and certain other countries that have poor environmental controls and human rights issues.

I agree, but I don't even think it's possible, at least without a revolution of change.
