Social media influencer that ‘Roided until lethal heart attack celebrated 11 years later

The guy was an admitted and open steroid user and basically used anabolic steroids and recreational drugs until he died of cardiac arrest at 22. The comments still celebrate him as a positive force. “Legend” and “never be forgotten” are some key phrases I see. Seems like anabolic steroid use is an acceptable thing in society now?

It's just "positivity". I'm pretty much free of positivity, so I can say that's really unfortunate. People hopefully know better, generally.

Is it negative of me to look and not find a comment that said, "He's a cautionary tale of narcissism meets anabolic steroids/illicit drugs that resulted in his heart exploding"?

I remember reading somewhere that a survey of some young males said they'd give up 10yrs of life to look 'great' via anabols.

Illicit and dangerous drugs have always been an acceptable part of some segment of society everywhere.

I don't know that it's fair to say 'society' accepts anabol use, regardless of the probably size of the user segment.

Maybe 'dismissed' is more accurate, since it isn't meth or opiates.

Nope. Just being real.

I’m not trying to be sarcastic or unfeeling, although it probably sounds that way. It’s unfortunate that people think that way, and even more unfortunate that he bought into that mindset. I guess it comes with the invulnerable youth phase.

Was it truly narcissistic or a desperate desire to be “special”? I understand that one is thinking you’re more than you are, and the other is a fear that you aren’t. Many shades of gray here.

A while back I watched some of his antics in his videos trying to figure out what this guy was. He basically walks around different cities shirtless to get attention. He liked making guys who are out with their ladies "jelly" of his physique. He basically died to look like a muscular human peacock.

When you are that young you think you are invulnerable.

Yeah, he used PEDs, but so did a lot of athletes. Yeah, he used recreational drugs, but so do A LOT of people. He was a 22 year old kid with an undiagnosed congenital heart defect. Come on man.

Yeah, I think the judgement is unwarranted, this goes in the 'if you can't say anything nice..." bucket.

I don't think it's negative at all. I can't see anything wrong with recognizing behavior that isn't good. That doesn't have to progress to the "He's a piece of crap" place though. He made some poor choices, as we all do, and he paid the price. Some of us are extended grace for whatever reasons. I don't think building him up like some are doing is "positive". It's just weird, to me. You don't want to emulate that. I would (and have) discouraged my kids from thinking like that, or at least encouraged them to think differently. For one, maybe being less self-centered, thinking of others.

If he desired to live and die this way, do we have some sort of greater authority to stop him?

Of course not, but we can have the opinion his values are crappy and tell people why we think they are crappy in an effort to help people make better choices. Rather than go on about how awesome he was. No one has the authority to tell me I have to support his choices.

Well, we can have laws about appropriate use of drugs and hormones, etc., which have some effect on his freedom to do as he pleases.
