Who's been to Bar Harbor, ME?

Going to spend a couple days there with the family this month. Looks like lots to see and do; any specific recommendations to help narrow it down?

We all like hiking but are probably not attempting any long trails with the kids this time.

Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain are accessible even with small kids. Jordan's pond restaurant is famous for Pop-Overs.

Jordons pond hike isn't too long and it's rather nice.

lobstuh at a mom & pop place off the beaten path.

I've been, but it was too long ago and my visit was too brief to be of any help.

Acadia is beautiful. Cadillac Mountain was a parking nightmare, though. If you want to see a sunset up there, plan to go up well ahead of time.

Never had a lobster roll on our Maine visit. Even the roadside stands one was $20 at the time. Yikes.

Walk here (research tide times)

Eat here (no need to check the tides)

Eat your body weight in fried clams.

Ok. Be judicious - only half your body weight.

In addition to lobster, eat some blueberry pie.

We also did this with our kids - Dive-In Theater. It was pricey but worth it for us.

Also some Pirate's Cove mini-putt at night.

Acadia is indeed beautiful and very accessible. One of the nicer National Parks I've visited.
You must do the low-tide walk to Bar Island, but heed the signs and the tide. If you get stuck there, it's either a very long wait for the next tide or several hundred dollars for someone to come by boat and get you. Also, do not drive on the sand during low tide. I've seen many cars get stuck in the sand and have to be towed out.

Mike,

Crazy as it sounds, look at cruise sites and their excursions for Bar Harbor. It's a popular stop on their New England and Canada cruises. They'll list a slew of different destinations and activities in the area. From there, you'll be able to delve more deeply to find additional activities.

Mini golf is a sure win, thanks. We will definitely try out some of the trails in Acadia. If I'm going to Maine I am getting lobster, so question.

Unfortunately low-tide while we are there will be either early or late so it might not work out for us to get out to Bar Island, as much as I would like.

I am slightly concerned about crowds, so while cruise excursions seem like a good bet I might avoid them, while taking note of what looks good.

Mike,

Use the excursions for ideas. FWIW, Bar Harbor is a significant tourist destination. There will be no escape from tourists and, to a degree, crowds. Just the nature of the area. Got to time everything accordingly.
