Wife has small hands and wants to stick with the smaller phone.

Currently she is using a backup OG SE with 32 gb storage but the battery needs replacing (discharges very quickly when in use). She dropped her OG SE/256 a while back and broke the screen. I ordered a new screen and battery from iFixIt and replaced them over the weekend but something is borked because when I try to restore the phone from backup it restarts after approximately 2 minutes and the battery is not charging.

With that in mind I’m looking at a new phone and wondering if it’s worth spending the extra money for a 13 mini instead of the 12.

Her usage is primarily calling & texting. She also occasionally takes pictures of the girls but she’s not trying to become Ansel Adams.

Comparing the 2, the differences seem minor, but my thinking is that the 13 might be supported for a few more years simply because it’s newer.

I have a 12 mini (bought used). Works great. The main difference I was concerned about was the 13 is supposed to have a slightly longer battery life. Not long enough for the additional cost, me thought.

The 12 mini base model comes with 64gb while the 13 mini base model comes with 128gb. The 13 mini has slightly longer battery life and one generation newer processor. Also you can do cinematic mode when shooting video on the 13 where it focuses on the foreground or background to give depth. For the $100, I think the 13 mini is the way to go.

Since this may be the last mini for several years, the 13 mini will last a bit longer than the 12 too if you are going to keep it for a long time. I love the mini and who knows when another will come out so I will cling to mine until there is a 15, 16, 17 mini, etc. Rumors say no 14 mini.

Can she wait a month? The 14’s should debut then. Might even see lower prices.

I think it’s worth an additional $100 due to a series of small but nice upgrades. But either option is good.

I believe the 13 mini's battery outlasts the regular size 12 battery, so I think it's a worthy upgrade to just go ahead and get the 13 mini

I waited and got the 13 Mini. Been very happy with it. I know it will last for at least the 4 year minimum it takes me to upgrade my phone.

While it is a 2x "zoom". It's usually described as Ultra Wide (13mm equiv) and Wide (26mm equiv). Vs. the Pro with 13mm / 26mm / 77mm.
