Fifty million dollars of disfigurement

looks like this:

I dunno - I was surprised about this when I heard about it:

Quote

[Linda] Evangelista, 57, was in hiding for five years after claiming a botched CoolSculpting procedure left her “brutally disfigured.”…

While she has since settled the lawsuit against CoolSculpting parent company Zeltiq Aesthetics Inc. for a cool $50 million, the damage done is permanent, both physically and mentally.

This is what she looked like before, when she was on the red carpet once:

I mean, not to minimize this - I understand that beauty and fame is a big business, but to me, $50M of brutal disfigurement this ain’t. She’s back on the cover of Vogue, BTW, “disfigurement” and all:

What was wrong with the way she looked before? I guess it was only in her eyes.

Yes, I think cool sculpting is for the body, not the face.
After reading the link, looks like it was also on her chin.

I’m pretty sure this was about her facial disfigurement.

She looks slightly jowl-y in the first picture I posted, but not that different from any other 57 year old (IMO).

Evangelista, known "for the phrase: 'We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day.'"

Cryolipolysis

"Zeltiq obtained FDA marketing clearance for cryolipolysis of the flanks, and in 2012 received marketing clearance for cryolipolysis of the abdomen. This treatment has also been cleared for the treatment of the upper arm, back fat, bra fat, banana roll, submental area, and thighs."

"Another adverse effect is paradoxical adipose hypertrophy (PAH) which causes fat tissue to grow larger rather than become reduced in size as a consequence of the procedure. Supermodel Linda Evangelista has initiated legal action for damage caused by PAH."

Indeed! People age, despite their desires not to.

Also same age as Evangelista, and known for their looks:

Sherilyn Fenn

Paulina Porizkova

Courtney Cox, one year older

Pamela Anderson - two years younger

She filed a product liability suit for $50M. The parties settled and the terms have not been disclosed. So we don't know how much she got after she was disfigured by a rare side effect of the CoolSculpting process. That risk was undisclosed by the company, it causes fat cells to expand instead of contract.

Ms. Evangelista was at one point the highest paid model in the world, this disfigurement to her face and body cost her earnings and caused significant emotional suffering. She deserved a big payout.

As for her return to modeling, her skin is pulled back and much of her face and neck are covered in the photos. She is being honest about how much those magazine photos are illusions.

I wish her well.

Yep, never go under the knife. You might look fine at first but it’ll really bite you when you age.

Mea Culpa... I was using sites that listed celebrities born in 1965, like Evangelista. Hawn was, erroneously, on one of them.

I have mixed feelings about the award, but not because of the size or legality of it. It bothers me a bit because every day millions of people around the world get their a** kicked by life without any chance of being able to sue for any kind of damages. Evangelista took a chance to (I assume) extend her career and she lost. I feel sorry for her, but I feel a heck of a lot sorrier for all those who have so much less to work with. Yeah, I know. Life is not fair. But I wish it was more fair.

LOL, I knew she was 70-ish, didn't know she was 76.

But there was no way that was the face of a 57yo.

Courtney Cox, one year older

Ok, she's had work done.

I can't say for certain what it is, but it's around the cheeks and possibly eyes.

Her face looks like it plumped up some.

Regardless, her as an 'example' is as irrelevant as Goldie.

I felt a twinge of sadness the other day when I looked at photos of Shania Twain who, like Evangelista, was one of the most beautiful female celebrities I can recall. It's up to the individual what they want to do to augment their looks, but it's sad that they would certainly look much more beautiful by having not done any cosmetic work.

Hurts like a bastid...

Shania Twain was in a league of her own, shared only perhaps with Salma Hayek. In a million lifetimes I will never understand how her "Mutt" of a husband could cheat on her.

It is what it is.
