Great for you if you're 100% solar or otherwise 'off-the-grid'. For those who have to pay the utility company, what is the supply charge per kWh where you are?

We've been with Inspire on a flat unlimited rate of $75/mo. for a year, but that deal expires in a couple of weeks. The new flat unlimited rate is $154.99, which they reduced to $134.99. OR we can pay a fixed 16.69 per kWh, which of the two options is the one I'll go for. It's still about a penny per kWh cheaper than our utility (Eversource). I'm still doing some exploring though, before I re-up. Just curious how we in Massachusetts compare with the rest of the country or more importantly, if anyone here has any good suggestions for option – besides putting solar panels on our facing-the-wrong-direction-and-obscured-by-trees roof.

Thanks, but I found that and as soon as they wanted my address, I bailed. Then for the hell of it I plugged in an address down the street and most of what I got back was a lot of info about how I should consider solar.

I'm in a rural area, so I'm on a Co-op in Louisiana. The statement doesn't include the rate, but when I do the math, the rate is $0.1125 per kWh.

West Alabama - 11.2 per kWh. Local REA co-op.

We have electric choice here (western Pennsylvania), but the best deals have screw-you tripwires if you mess up the renewal procedure. I got bit hard by that one time, so I just keep the default utility, which I have found to be competitive enough.

We use budget or level billing. Our next budget billing is to be $117 for about 600 KWH average use, after a recent rate hike. That's about 10% more than it was a few months ago. That's 19.5 cents per KWH, supply plus delivery. The supply part is half of that.

Rate payer!

In Mpls/StP suburbs, 0.103/kwh (“energy charge - summer”) plus a “fuel cost charge” of 0.0377, on top of a basic service charge of $11.90/mo. Plus a “Resource adjustment” and “Interim Rate Adj” totalling another $8.

This is Xcel; I’m suspicious that the “fuel cost charge”, “Resource Adj”, and/or “Interim Rate Adj” may have to do with the Texas ERCOT grid failure.

Very expensive. We have "time of day" rates here in Sacramento. I pay 30-35 cents per kw/h during peak hours when it's hot.

haven’t checked in over a year but last time i did it was $0.0675 per kwh here in GA.

Jefferson Co Washington - we just had a pretty significant rate hike. A year ago our rate was 0.0882 with a base fee of $21.00

Also in MA, and delivery is through Eversource. The town of Greenfield started a bulk buy for town residents a few years ago, the current supplier contract is with Dynegy. The supplier rate is 9.9 cents per kWh, the delivery charges add up to about 14 cents per kWh.

We were given the option to opt-out when this began, I shopped around a bit and did not see anything that would be consistently better. Checking since then, I could get slightly better rates at times, but would have to keep checking every few months to see where the next bargain rate would be available from. And at times none would be available.

Of course Duke Energy makes it difficult --

Much cheaper just to 'solar-ize' a room, especially given PG&E's penchant for arbitrarily cutting off power:

Note he had to buy a large, expensive battery bank since his mini-split runs on 240VAC.

There are ones that use 120VAC or for even less just install a window unit.

Thank you, all. Very enlightening. Our current bill is the worst I've seen since we've lived here, at $300+. Of course that's for 1575 kWh usage this past month. In this recent heat wave, the AC has been cranking more than ever. The killer is that the majority of that bill is the utility's Delivery charge, fees and taxes. The Supply was the flat $75. Based on the few comparison's I've found for options in this area, I may just lock in that 16.69 per kWh for three years as predictions are that the rates this winter will go up yet again.

Agreed. I think I pay $20-25 per month for this in Sacramento. It's quite regressive.

My bill last month was $127. The month before it was $100 even
This is in GA, so the AC was on a lot.
We get our power from Cobb EMC, an electric member co-op.
The thing that keeps my bill down is that my approx. 3,000sf townhouse is well insulated but it also has units on both sides.
Our bill at our old house that had single lane windows and not great insulation would have been 3-4 times that.
I keep the temp at 77°-78° but it is pretty comfortable.

Edit the only thing that is gas is my stovetop, which is almost never used. Lol
