Perplexiong HomeKit Problem
Posted by: raz

The wife and I got back from a long vacation, and I can no longer control *any* of my smart devices from my iPhone via Siri or the Home app. They simply are not responding,

However, the Home app on my Mac works just fine. The apps from the vendors work just fine from my phone. The wife can still control the devices from Siri.

I'm kind of at a loss here.

Any ideas?

I would power-cycle the hubs, the devices, and then check for Software updates for home kit and the devices.
Good luck!

Alas, I did reset the mesh network. I removed and reset one of the bulbs. No change.

Updated iPhone to the latest iOS.

Sigh.

One at a time, remove each smart device from your Home app and add them back.

I did that with 1 bulb. No joy. I'd really rather not have to reset every bulb.

Are you sure you're on the right WiFi network??

Reasonably. But if not, why do the apps work from the phone?

Are the devices wi-fi, connected to a hub or thread enabled? If wi-fi, I wonder if your phone is on the wrong wifi network but just a guess. All my devices are connected to the manufacturer's hub or newer ones are thread enabled. I've had zero issues with them. The wi-fi ones had issues.

Depends on the app, but many work over Internet relays. Wouldn't matter whether the iPhone was on the right WiFi network.

Thinking more about this, the wi-fi network should have zero impact with HomeKit. I've been connected to wi-fi while traveling and I'm pretty sure that I can still control my HomeKit devices.

Do-able. Need a device that acts as a HomeKit hub and need MFA on your iCloud account AND need devices that are compatible with operating away from home.

Can't assume that everyone has all of the above.

For the record …

Eero mesh network sitting behind fios router. Networks have different names.

Mostly LIFX mini bulbs. A few eve switches.

And one original HomePod if it matters.

iPod touch also works. So, it’s just my phone.
