My sis in law has a thermostat that lives exclusively in the present - it has no programmable functionality. Who knew such cheap devices were made? Anyway, I've convinced my sis in law that a smart thermostat is worth it insofar as you can kill any AI functionality. My only experience with 'smart' features is they get hair brained ideas on when you may desire more or less heat. Hitting a particular temp as a particular time is welcome.

Does anyone find AI on their thermostat useful?

I got rid of our programmable thermostats. We are home much of the time (retired) and don't need or want complication.

If basic programmable on-off times and temperatures equals “artificial intelligence”, then yes. If not, no.

Like modela, I took out the smart thermostat after I retired. I put my old one back, set it to one temp, and leave it alone.

HELP!

We had a programmable thermostat at our old home. It worked for about a month, then lost connection to our router during a power blip and we never were able to get it back. Kept giving us an error message no matter what we tried.

Current house has mix of analog and digital non-programmable thermostats (we have three AC units). We're in no rush to replace any of them.

I'm surprised at your terminology. I have a Nest thermostat. It's programmable. I think there's some options for machine learning, but nothing AI. It seems like you're using AI like marketing people use it, not how software engineers use it ;)

Have a Honeywell TH8320 that can control one than one type of heat and cool and it needed to have the ability to sense outside temperature. I can go into the parameters and set what outside temperature I want the heat pump to turn off and turn on the oil furnace. I like to think of it as my Hybrid system.
