T-Mobile and SpaceX are planning an announcement tonight regarding Starlink. no details yet, but most think that Starlink will connect to T-Mobile's cellular system for increased connectivity.

The announcement will be live-streamed at 8 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. PT) from SpaceX’s Starbase facility in South Texas.

While I wouldn't be comfortable to make an investment in it yet, I would be worried enough about space based 'cellular' (for the lack of a better term), that I wouldn't be investing in AT&T or any of the other cell providers.

Even Apple has interest in something similar. Imagine if Apple owned not only the hardware market (cell phones), but also the recurring revenue from the wireless portion of the business.

It may be hard to make a case for this in urban environments (where end user densities are very high, and infrastructure installation is easy), but suburban, and especially rural users could be better served.

Frankly we need competition in all these spaces for internet, TV and telephony (assuming what the T-Mobile & SpaceX announcement is about). For too long the existing providers have been charging too much and providing poor service. Just look at what Starlink has done to the rural and marine markets in terms of prices.

I take it that this didn't happen yet.
