R/x pricing

Wife and I have more prescriptions than I'd care to list. We have no problem with payment since our insurance covers all but some small copays.

That's not the case for many others and my Twitter feeds includes Mark Cuban, a dot com wealthy NBA team owner. He constantly promotes what he describes as his no-profit pharmacy site with claims of extraordinary savings.

Is this what it appears to be?

Hmmmm...my meds copays now are about the same to what they list on that website.

Why would you listen to Mark Cuban on health advice?

Edit: my prices are for 90 days not 30 as listed...

Health? Nope

Buying and selling products? Why not?

I’m not a fan of loudmouth businessmen but I think we can give him credit for making the prescription market more competitive.

GoodRx was the forum’s advice to me. Saves me about 25% on the one drug I pay out-of-pocket.

If you look at their drug list (which isn’t that extensive), everything is generic. These drugs are now off patent; a couple of them can be obtained over the counter.

Some folks find that generic doesn’t work as well for them. If it doesn’t bother you, you might find something in the list. Everything I checked was about the same as my copay, snd a few were more expensive than what I’m currently paying. For instance, Zyrtec is the brand name, citirizine is the generic. I get 365 pills from Amazon for about 12-15 bucks with “free” shipping with Prime. They can’t beat that, even when the true cost of shipping is accounted for.

As far as 30 days vs 90 days, if you tap on one of the drugs in the list it takes you to the page for that drug; change the quantity to change the price for that amount.

I have been astounded at generic prices for drugs from Costco and the local health provider pharmacy (which I assume to be somewhat less profit-driven): a few dollars for a prescription for antibiotics, and I think one occasion where something was $1.12 (this was from Costco). Who has heard of anything in a pharmacy being $1, even a comb?
