I get this phone call every few years from one of my brothers-in-law. One of his long-time friends (who I've also known for many years, great guy) now makes $130K doing this and is thisclose to being hired by Experian. He also said something about $4K/week, which is roughly $208K/yr with simple multiplication X 52 weeks.

It all sounds like free money, what's not to like?

From what I can tell, this is the story:

1) You pay some undisclosed tuition to enroll in a 6-month training program, which sets you up as an assessor of payment systems security. You can't just enroll online because they "vet" applicants with a phone call ... my question: Is a timeshare in Hawaii also involved??

2) You then market yourself for consulting gigs/employment/whatever. Wait, no, they provide you "the leads." Hold up, why would I need "leads ..."

3) Profit!

Did I mention my brother-in-law gets a referral fee if I sign up for this?

For the right number, I can do that for a couple years then retire!

I've seen it bear fruit on so many occasions when I ask 'Where'd you hear that?!'

It's surpassed only by 'I read it on the Internet'.

Now this is not to tar all brothers-in law with the same brush.

But I've seen it happen almost often enough to make it a solid stereotype, and a meme if nothing else.

Certainly many are just bad ju-ju on some level.
