Bang-for-buck socks?

Socks are fricken' expensive, and so vital. Any good bang for buck socks recommended? I only use the really short socks, and run a lot, but I'm not spending 12 bucks per pair on merino wool, etc. An REI salesperson gave me a hard time because he noticed my socks were basically cotton, but I don't notice that they suck, so I guess I'm not that picky. I'm not super excited about some performance fabrics because they tend to develop the funk, and the feel is not so great (it can rub things raw).

Gold Toe and Nike here for the shorty quarter tops.
Baby Buzz wears either the regular crew length, or no-shows.
Good luck.

Whatever Costco sells. I buy new set when they go on sale and hold them until the last set are too grungy to wear. Then I pull out the new ones and wait for the next sale to get a replacement set to have in reserve.

Huh, Gold toe. The only ones I've had were dress socks, and they were this god-awful polyester, or actually they might have been acrylic or something. They didn't breathe, were hot, etc., but it looks like there are lots of types, so I'll check that out. It looks like amazon has them. Thanks!

I have lots of long black Nike dry-fits that are labelled R and L. Very good socks, but really expensive. They're also really tight so I don't wear them much anymore.

I always buy a few pairs of socks when I am in a town with a Muji store.

Gold Toe cottons are eons ahead of their poly-acrylic, non-cotton offerings.
Very affordable when on sale.

From muji.com:

NO IT DOESN'T!!

Being of big size 13 feet, 'one size fits all' is NOT a thing with socks. Certainly, one size will fit MOST, but not ALL.

I seem to generally be the same size as most people, so I'm lucky that way, except sometimes less common sizes go on serious sale. My wife has small feet, so sometimes she gets incredible deals on shoes.

Gold Toe at Penney’s. Head for Walmart to buy some cheap spray for crotch rot to use on your feet.

I’ve been noticing the teens are starting to wear crew socks again. I just quit wearing them a year or so ago (I’m the opposite of a trendsetter.). But I saved them knowing they would return. I still have some black knee highs from high school so I’m ready for when they come back.

They've been wearing them for about half a decade.

I generally buy them at the discount store, usually some sore of "sport" brand that will wick moisture.

Prefer ankle/no show for shorts

Crew for pants.

I wore those when I first went into business mode wearing suits, the hair follicles from the knee down never grew back.

I’ve been using Wright’s “double wall” socks for well over a decade now. They are more expensive than “ordinary “ socks but, the double wall prevents chafing and blisters (the inner wall hugs your foot, the outer wall hugs the shoe. ANY rubbing occurs between the sock walls thereby saving your feet.

Huh.

I general walk in long pants, but this heat is making that a chore.

Putting on some shorts, the regular length crew socks looked way out of place, even though that's what I see other guy's doing.

Maybe I'll give ankle socks a try.

I like larger socks than my shoe size would indicate, so a 13 in socks is very comfy.

I've recently switched to Cotton/Poly/Spandex athletic socks and loving it. They are cheap at about $2.50 a pair. They wash well with no change in size. Hold shape. Elastic. And soft.

Give these modern Cotton/Synthetic blends a try. They are not the same poor quality material from +10 years ago. But I get it, if you're a 100% cotton guy, and that's what you've been wearing for +50 years.

These are the ones I'm currently wearing:

I think that's what I'm wearing mostly, and I feel like it's time to try something else. A little FOMO. A couple years ago I realized I can't run in the cheapest running shoes I can find, and I'm thinking socks might be the same. Maybe I'm wrong though. Thanks for all the suggestions, btw!
