Road rage incident. Guy took umbrage with our driver after getting on the freeway where there’s metered ramps. Ended with the assailant firing two rounds into the back of the cab. One went through near the license plate passing through front and back seat and lodging in our driver’s back. He managed to call 911, get the plate number and drive himself to a close by ER. They transferred him to the trauma hospital for operation. Looks like he’ll be ok, week in hospital.

I went down this morning and had a look at the front facing dash cam footage. Yikes. Crazies out there. They’ve got a guy under arrest.

This kind of thing terrifies me.* What a level-headed guy your driver must be, to have reported the incident, described the shooter, and gotten himself to the ER. I hope he recovers fully, without any long-term problems.

*Especially uncomfortable because my son is living in Portland right now (way too far away), but I know these things happen all over the country.

We use that Checker for promo, like parades and events. City regs prohibit using a vehicle older than 10 years. They stopped making Checkers about 1980. I drove one on the night shift for a couple years. Great ride. Mine was stretch version with jump seats. I could pack in a lot of party people.

We used to go to auctions and buy old patrol cars for cheap. Made good taxis. Some had plates in the back of the front seats that would have stopped that bullet. Or a knife.

Right. Checker Marathon, station wagon. My BIL had one and drove it to Alaska on vacation. 1500 miles of gravel road.

That's scary. How mad can you possibly get over such a nothing thing? I'm glad the driver's wound is treatable.
