I made it through about 45 minutes and could not take it anymore. Awful.

I'm usually up for a big budget scifi affair as long as I'm in the proper mood for it, but there is was no way that I was gonna make it though that movie.

Never even heard about it so I checked out wikipedia. Found this little tidbit.

Future

In January 2022, Emmerich spoke about the possibility of filming two sequels back-to-back if the first film was a success.[8] The following month, star John Bradley said that "if Roland goes down the direction that he wants to", the sequels would be "even more batshit crazy than the first".[38]

And that was the, um, ”good” part.

I do not engage in hyperbole when I say that if the last 20 to 30 minutes of this film had been even a little worse, it would qualify as an actual physical assault.

Pick an aspect of making a movie, any one at all, and it would slot in neatly into a syllabus for a ‘Horrible Movie Making 101’ course. Even the sound work was wretched because it allowed you to hear the dialog.

This movie belongs in swamp of movies that are so bad, I can’t really say it’s the worst movie I’ve ever seen, because I’d only be adding injury to insult to continue making my brain think about it.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Looks like we are all in 100% agreement.
Still amazes me just how awful it was.

It triggered the slow motion train wreck portion of my brain. I left it on to see just how spectacular the carnage was going to get, and started playing a game on my phone as a kind of bomb shelter to protect the vital sections of my mind from damage.

Favorite synopsis --

"Moonfall" is another example of what Roland Emmerich's movies are capable of, and that is overcompensating for a lack of intelligent storytelling with as much CGI-filled destruction as possible.

followed by -

Moonfall's CGI quality makes Chicken Run look like Star Wars.

I'll admit most of his movies are really watchable (as hal said; when you're in the right frame of mind) for about this length of time.*

Emmerich is a hack. A money-making hack but a hack nonetheless.

* = a pass for Stargate, which I always enjoy re-watching.

Sounds like the ideal cult film! Let's check back in a decade.
