Got my V-card punched again

I got my vaccination this morning, not even a sore arm from it (so far). The pharmacist recommended waiting two or three weeks for my Flu and Shingles shot.

I'm going to get my flu shot next week and hopefully the next Covid vaccine in October. Supposedly it will provide better coverage during the holidays, This was the advice one of the immunologists gave in a TV interview recently.

I don't know why, but I got a bee in my bonnet a few days ago and got the flu and the new COVID at the same time. Arms were quite sore for a while, the COVID being the more painful of the two. Flu pain let up about 12 hours later, the other more like 18 hours when I stopped noticing.

Had planned to wait until the end of the month, but I have an event coming up in October that includes non-vaxers and thought I'd maximize the protection for me.

(Of course I have seen nothing that says non-vexers spread any differently than vaxers so there is a mind game going on here.)

Got both on Saturday-Moderna for C19. That arm still hurts a tiny bit, but In all, at most 25% of prior boosters.
Only other effect is more fatigue than usual, maybe a bit more muscle tightness.

One could argue that getting the corona and flu shots at the same time is advantageous, since the adjuvants might help improve immune response to both; and also that there's the possibility of a little cross-reactivity between the two vaccines, since some "flu" viruses are actually coronaviruses.

Supply chain issues meet Covid vaccinations…

Went for my appointment tonight to get flu & Covid boosters and the pharmacy tech informs me that they did not receive their shipment of Covid boosters for this week. “Do you still want the flu shot?”

Got the flu shot last week but my insurance (Medicare supplement) said too soon for my Covid vaccine (got my latest booster in July.). Rescheduled for tomorrow as a cash payer for the cost of the injection.

...some "flu" viruses are actually coronaviruses.

I don't believe that is true. Flu viruses are in the family Orthomyxoviridae (i.e., not coronaviruses). Covid viruses are from the family Coronaviridae. Never the twain shall meet.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Note that I put the word "flu" in quotes ... since some people commonly use "flu" to indicate what actually turns out to be the common cold. These are the viruses that can be coronaviruses... [www.webmd.com]

Just curious - how much does it cost?

I thought that even the uninsured got the shots free.

Got my Omicron booster at the pharmacy yesterday. Pfizer.
Felt bad for about 45 minutes, 7 hours after the shot.

Glad to get it done.

Yes the shots are free for everyone, but they do collect your insurance info.

Got both Flu and the Quad Moderna shot a week ago... I got lucky and snapped up one of the last available openings at my local CVS.

Lump the size of an egg on the COVID arm, nothing on the Flu arm...

My Walgreens receipt says that my insurance saved me $2.59 on the Pfizer update and $102.29 for the Fluzone 65+

Walgreens didn’t charge me for my Pfizer dose but like Don C, my receipt shows $2.59.

Wife and I Just received both flu and Moderna Covid shots yesterday at Costco. I have no serious side effects so far but my wife, who is much more sensitive, is sick since Yesterday evening. Same reaction on previous Covid shots. She is a trooper.

Pharmacist said they were almost out of the updated Moderna but had about 40 Pfizer doses left. I told her that was odd for a red state. I thought there would be more to go around as many anti-vac folks in this area. They also noted they will have to toss the previous (non-updated) boosters as they can’t give them away to anyone.

No charges on either injection as Plan G covers 1 flu shot per year and she said the Omicron boost was covered by an emergency government order (?) which I can not remember the title of.
