....Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot join.....Eddie Murphy.....

‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Original Cast Members Returning for Netflix Sequel ‘Axel Foley’

....Eddie Murphy is reuniting with his original “Beverly Hills Cop” co-stars — Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot — for the upcoming sequel, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.”

Netflix picked up the rights in 2019 to release the next “Beverly Hills Cop” movie, which is currently in production.

“Axel Foley” is the fourth installment in the hit action-comedy franchise, following 1984’s “Beverly Hills Cop,” 1987’s “Beverly Hills Cop II” and 1994’s “Beverly Hills Cop III.” For the fourquel, producers opted to ditch the roman numerals and instead name the film after Murphy’s fish-out-of-water character, a Detroit police officer who travels to Los Angeles to investigate crimes.

Plot details for “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley” have been kept under wraps. Presumably, the story involves Axel Foley returning to the 90210 to crack a new case.

In the original film, Reinhold and Ashton played Detective Billy Rosewood and Sergeant John Taggart, who were hired to track Axel Foley as he attempted to solve the murder of his best friend. Reiser played Detective Jeffrey Friedman and Pinchot was the fan-favorite Serge. Reinhold appeared in each subsequent “Beverly Hills Cop” adventure, though Ashton, Reiser and Pinchot returned for only two of the three.

As previously reported, Taylour Paige (“Zola”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have been cast in “Axel Foley” in undisclosed roles.

The first three “Beverly Hills Cop” installments were box office hits, earning more than $700 million globally and solidifying Murphy’s presence as a movie star. A fourth movie has been in the works for decades, with filmmakers Brett Ratner and the duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah each attached at one point to direct. In early 2022, Mark Molloy was hired to helm the film, in his feature debut, from a script by Will Beall (“Aquaman”).

Murphy is producing the movie with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman for Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic will serve as executive producers, while Melissa Reid will co-produce for Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

I wonder if Jonathan Banks will be in it since he was in the original and is now freed up from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

One of those actors that I know I've seen before (breaking Bad), but couldn't name a single film/tv show and now that you mention he was in Beverly Hills Cop, I don't remember him in that either...

He looks a lot different now than he did when he was younger.

Mr Murphy had slowed down a bit from his frenetic days so I have to wonder what this will be like. Of course, they all have, 38 years later.

Hurts like a bastid...

I'm a big fan of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, but I have huge reservations about this sequel.

Even seeing Bruckheimer's name doesn't give me any hope that Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley will come close to the success of Top Gun: Maverick.

If it does, great.

But I'm thinking more like Coming to America 2, compared to the original, only less so.

LOL.

Jonathan Banks is a great actor, one of those guys I hate to see as bad guy, because it makes a great good guy.

A great actor, I really like is speaking voice and its cadence.

He's been in a lot of TV and movies, but one my earliest memories is as Frank McPike, Vinnie Terranova's (Ken Wahl, Purple Hearts, Fort Apache, The Bronx) in Wiseguy.

He's done a lot of film as well.

48 Hours was one of my earliest experiences with a rated R movie. My parents and grandparents went to the movies and took me. My dad and grandfather went to see 48 Hours and my mom and grandmother went to see Tootsie. But there was a problem with the Tootsie theater, so to keep me happy one of them had to GO INTO the other theater and find my dad and bring him out to get me so I could go into the 48 Hours theater.

Years later I saw it on TV and thought, what a horrible job they did dubbing it. "How's the wife? Mean as a snake." Mean as a snake???? Really? How sad. Then I watched the original again and was surprised that it was what he actually said.
