Cousins in Tampa are evacuating.

Good luck to anyone in the storm's path.

Looking forward to the 4-5 inches of rain we may get at the end of the week, badly needed.

As of tonight it is heading into Crystal River, about 12 miles from me. I'll be putting storm shutters up Wednesday/Thursday. Luckily it is forecast to weaken to a Cat1 by the time it comes ashore here - I really hope that is correct.

I dunno, here's an image from a local station from an hour ago:

... yes, it technically makes landfall as a Cat 1, but it's a Cat 3 not long before that... could be significant wind and rain...

Big overnight change - now into Tampa Bay as a Cat3 then moving up inland slowly but weakening along the way. The Villages get it as a Cat 1, the Ocala as a Tropical Storm - but it is taking 24 hours to make the distance which means lots of rain and wind over an extended time. It is still two days out and a lot can change, so stay tuned.

Forum member p8712 is in St Pete, as are my cousin and wife. Truly a worst case scenario for them.

HAVANA (AP) — Hurricane Ian knocked out power across all of Cuba and devastated some of the country’s most important tobacco farms when it slammed into the island’s western tip as a major hurricane Tuesday.

Cuba’s Electric Union said in a statement that work was underway to gradually restore service to the country’s 11 million people during the night. Power was initially knocked out to about 1 million people in Cuba’s western provinces, but later the entire grid collapsed.
