Been thinking about one these: 10 Best MagSafe (Magnetic) USB-C Adapters for MacBooks & iPads

I think I want one since my 2020 MBP M1 doesn't have MagSafe but I don't want to block my other USB-C port, they could've put them a bit further apart.

This article is 2 years old so they may be better ones available and I'm open the suggestions.

I tested a number of them. Not great, either they block ports or get very warm to the touch, and had issues with full power delivery. That was with a 15" MacBook Pro, and an 87W adapter. I'd be concerned with 96W or 140W for sure on later models.

Good Luck!

Thanks Jamie. I appreciate the info. Guess I'll need to do some more research. My power supply I believe is 61W.

I've been standing up for you folks on Facebook.

It appears the many of the ones in the article aren't even available anymore.

Thanks - and no surprised many went away after a single production.

I don't find these types of articles useful because they're just regurgitating the specs to you. They haven't actually tested any of them to see if they really work and what the pros/cons of each are.

They are at the root just Amazon affiliate link farms. I stick to known names like wirecutter. I mean, they farm affiliate links, too, but at least they actually try the stuff.

Tried it. Returned it. Got a "Oh we're sorry, can we send you another from our current production". It didn't work well either.

I hate '10 Best...' Lists because they never are.

The comment at the bottom of that article addressed the issue.

These 'Best' lists are more often than not merely a collection of advertising grouped in increments of ten.

Whoopde-fsckn-do.

They seldom discuss attributes that make them better let alone why they're the best.

And the vast majority of these some to have zero hands-on, and don't even think about any actual testing.

Most of these Not Really 10 Best lists are from no account sites like this mashtips— sites one has never heard of and never visits again.

But 'big name' sites have done this from time to time as well, often attributed to a slow news day.

The real issue is the fact this is a popular practice, frequently hawking cheap, inferior products.

It's all about clicks and Benjamins.

This is the one I have been using with my M1 MBA for the last year with no problem. It works well with just a couple of observations - The magnet is not as strong as the magsafe from my older MBA; it does not change from amber to green, it can block the second port. That said, I can recommend it.

We've used that one as well, but we were using it connected to a Thunderbolt hub on a Window's laptop. It eventually became problematic as a TB connection so we stopped using it. I should find it and give it another try just for charging.
