Alerts are inconsistent

I’m having trouble with getting text alerts. In the past when I would receive a text my phone would light up and I would see a notification that someone had sent me a text. Usually my watch will vibrate at the same time. But now I may get a notification or I may not. So I’m missing a lot of messages which is a problem! Any ideas on why this could be happening?

I assume you've gone through notification settings on your phone?

I believe mine are too, but it could be I don't notice them. Although, they seem obvious since they come through my watch too. But it sure seems like there are things that should give me notifications and don't (especially texts). I've been all through the settings.

For the phone, manage notifications:

...Make sure that your iPhone is not muted and that you haven't enabled "focus." You may need to change the alert-style.

For forwarding messages (and therefore message-alerts) to other Apple devices EXCEPT an Apple Watch, locate the iMessage settings on your iPhone. Make sure that SMS forwarding is enabled and goes to the appropriate devices.

For the watch, check the Notification options in the Watch app on your iPhone. You'll want to enable "Mirror my iPhone."

It’s probably Focus. I don’t understand it but it seems like an expansion of Do Not Disturb? It’s confusing to me. Thanks for the help.
