New iPhone...what next?

I just bought an iPhone Mini 13 to replace my original SE.

I'm currently on Mint Mobile with my SE, but I'm considering switching to Verizon.

What's the general process?

- Back up the phone. I currently have it set up to automatically back, but is this enough? Do some apps require a total backup or something?

- If I stay on Mint, can I just call them, and have them do some Voodoo and transfer my current phsical SIM to an eSIM on the new phone?

I guess if I go with Verizon, I could just go pick up a physical SIM at a store.

What about music that is only on the phone? Can I sync with iTunes on my MBP running Sierra?

Photos are on the cloud, so I guess that's easy.

I get unlimited storage on iCloud to transfer things. Would this be easier?

All the VooDoo you need-Apple QuickStart. [support.apple.com]
Use Phone to Phone transfer--DO NOT USE THE iCloud option.
You might have to swap the SIM, or have the carrier activate the eSIM.
If you are going with Verizon, they should give you some $$$ toward a new iPhone.
You also should look at their other brand [www.visible.com] and compare prices. They are owned by Verizon.
If you have Xfinity/Comcast, look at their plans-they use Verizon when not on Wifi.

Good place to compare carriers [www.whistleout.com]

Why Mint to Verizon? You got money to burn?

Spectrum also uses Verizon towers.

Mint uses T-Mobile's network, and I've been getting some no service issues here in Virginia on occasion.

I was thinking that Verizon would have better coverage, but maybe that Visible plan would be good.

I switched from Verizon to Visible for about half the cost and unlimited data now.
They can activate your phones eSIM.

Another Visible user here. Get $25/mo with a group of four or more. You can join public groups. Doesn't have to be relatives/friends.

And $5/mo to add an Apple watch to your plan.

Visible no longer offers party pay to new subscribers. Lowest plan is $30. There's a new plan for $45 that gives priority access to the Verizon network.

I switched to visible a few months ago. when i'm home in ATL it works great. when I was out in the Bay Area in August and in Austin just last week it was not so good. I'm pretty sure the Bay Area was a heavy traffic area and Visible users lose priority there. Wouldn't have thought Austin would have been a congestion issue.

I have some further testing to do. Not sure if I'll stick with Visible. I did not have these issues with Xfinity Mobile which also uses Verizon towers but then again I wasn't traveling as much. I'm going out to CA for 3 months. T-Mobile has a 3 month eSim trial that i plan to sign up for.

depending on your needs, Redpocket [www.redpocket.com] may have a plan that works for you. I don't use much data (less than 1gb/month) and their annual plan (purchased from bay) for $8.25/month works great. They obviously offer annual and monthly plans with more data than that, but might be worth comparing with Visible. Redpocket offers the Verizon network.

Keep in mind that you can have two lines active at the same time.
At least one has to be an eSIM.
Sierra is pretty out of date. I would personally try to do all syncing through iCloud, but ymmv.
