dynamo-powered (no batteries to worry about); with one upgrade - the original incandescent bulbs have been replaced with LEDs (brighter, and presumably longer lifespan).

each vehicle has two (one in the glovebox for ready access, another with the firstaid kit/tools/etc), there are several kept around the house in handy locations, and more stashed away with the "emergency supplies"

#1 - Peak PKC0TH. It comes with a lead-acid battery and 100W car headlight bulb.
I replaced the bulb with a 20W LED for extended run-time, and the battery with a LiFePO4 battery so that it doesn't matter too much if you forget to recharge it for a couple years. Just take the battery out and recharge it with a charger meant for LiFePO4 batteries. Point it at a white ceiling, and you've got sufficient light throughout the room to do what you need to do.

#2 - Radio Shack Weather Radio with built-in flashlight and phone charger, powered by crank, solar cells, internal lithium battery, and/or AA cells. The flashlight is LED and strong enough to be usable, and access to news and ability to charge a cell phone if you have one with you are very helpful in power outages.

Edit:
The Peak light is impractical for cars, unless you have plenty of space, but proved very helpful to me when my Golf's headlights went due to an electrical fault while out on a country road with a new moon and no street lights.

“ mine were from Amazon “

Yeah, Walmart was the first link that popped up, so I went with it.

Mine was a gift, but I’ve seen them on Amazon for 3-4 bucks when buying multiples.

Great battery life with an Energizer lithium battery. Mine lives in the truck’s ashtray.

The hand crank idea has merit, but most of the ones on the market are made from low grade Chinesium. Anyone have a more robust example ? The sort of thing you would put in your apocalypse survival kit ?

I bought this on sale several years ago, mainly for the rechargeable battery that goes with a Craftsman Drill/impact driver set that I have. It's got a super bright light and the head swivels so you can stand it on end and point the light anywhere. I use it all the time, not just in emergencies.

If you have any cordless tools, their batteries last a long time. I have an older version of this and it will last 36 hours with a 3 Ah battery.

Best emergency flashlight is one that is small enough to keep in your pocket on a daily basis (EDC). Uses single common AA battery. LED. Waterproof. No extra buttons or clips or fancy bits. Something like this:

Usually my iPhone. (Swipe up from the bottom on home screen. Touch the flashlight icon.)

Also usually the one AA battery LED flashlight that is always in my pocket. (Fenix E12)

Durability? "Professional" brands like Streamlight or MagLite. I've got a 35-year-old MagLite 3D (upgraded to LED) and a 20+ year old Streamlight Stinger. Feed them good batteries and they'll take care of you. Haven't tried it in a while but Streamlight used to have a lifetime warranty....I could walk into the local public safety supply store with a Streamlight with a bad switch, they'd swap the switch and hand it back...no charge.

Convenience? If you have a cordless tool collection, sure, get the flashlight that uses those batteries (unless you think you're going to need the cordless tools during your emergency, then you're competing for power sources).

Replenish-ability during an event? Probably something that runs on AA or AAA batteries, which are available (mostly) everywhere, including harvesting them from your device remotes if needed. Not as likely to find CR123A batteries at the corner gas station or trailside store when traveling. The thing with rechargeables is that if you don't have power available when they run out...what do you do? Most folks can scrounge a second set of batteries out of the "junk drawer" or other devices.

The cheap/free ones from Harbor Freight are pretty good. Pretty bright LEDs. Uses standard AAA batteries. I already have two. When we were buying tarps before Hurricane Ian, they had them for $0.87. But you can usually get a "free with any purchase" coupon from them.

Cell phone is handiest.

I prefer the 6" long 3x AAA LED alum machine ones with the focus pull.
They fit in the center console, night table, backpack blah, blah, blah.
And when I run into Sasquatch, (hopefully) he'll run when he gets clocked with it.

In the cars I have the long mag lights. Super bright and would run for a long time on battery.

Inside I have a few LED lanterns. Lights in all directions and sits on a surface well. Good for a power outage.

I have a few small AAA lights that I like for their moonlight (ultra low light) mode which is perfect for the middle of the night.

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

Depends.

For the car, I would want one similar to the one d4 posted, but the major problem there is that if I leave it in my car, the batteries inside will inevitably corrode and then I'll be up the creek. I do have a flashlight that is of the "shake" type with no batteries at all, but the light output isn't particularly great.

For the house, I have a huge variety, ranging from the D-cell lantern type:

... to the swing-arm LED type... those are really handy:

... but another great one was from a deal posted here awhile back, this thing is just great:

... puts out a surprising amount of light -- got mine on sale for $0.89, best $0.89 I ever spent.

Which would be any and all of mine.

I have two 2xD LED Maglites, one for the car and one for the abode, because they were on sale at a steal price, and a good D cell LED light will last longer than any 2xAA light.

As weapons go, I don't need a flashlight, but if push came to shove, as long as it's longer than my hand is wide, it'll do as a yarwara, superior to a truncheon.

I have a 3xD Coleman LED lantern that's awesome, from a forum recommendation.

But really, 3 D cells?!

Then there are several rechargeables, either 2xAA or 18xxx batteries.

Of the 18xxx variety, they all fit in a jacket or cargo pocket, so I have one with me all the time.

The great thing about these is what the kool kidz call throw — these really reach out and light up somebody.

Some of these are Olights, which also have a ton of spill as well as throw, lighting near and far.

Not big, so it couldn't be used as a blunt weapon. But bright, oh so bright!

Small, so it could easily be put in the glovebox of the car with room left over.

Holds a charge for a LONG time. Although I haven't had to use it much, in fact, I charged mine up over a year ago and it's still strong with no additional charging. USB, so I could recharge if needed with the adapter for the car.

Unfortunately, though, not cheap.

Anker, of course. Something like this: Anker flashlight

I use to have the plug in style that Rolando linked to. They were cool because in a power outage they came on automatically so I had that placed strategically through the house. Unfortunately they had fairly short battery life and I failed to realize that so when I needed them they were useless. I should have put a calendar reminder to replace them every two years.

My wife bought a cheap one. When it stopped working (which happened pretty soon after purchase), I opened it up. The "rechargeable batteries" recharged by cranking were actually three alkaline watch cells.
